Prince William and Prince Harry Reuniting Anytime Soon Is 'Not About to Happen'
Princes William and Harry are still feuding, and any hopes of a reunion are 'not about to happen' anytime soon.
Although Prince Harry and King Charles III have "taken baby steps" to heal their fractured bond, the same cannot be said for the Duke of Sussex and Prince William.
This led veteran royal scribe Robert Lacey to point out: "This is all to do with William’s wish to protect the institution of the monarchy, which he feels Harry can’t be trusted with."
"I don’t think William will ever agree to readmission of Harry into the family unless he clearly apologizes and moves forward," the author of Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, added.
The rift between William and Harry is said to be both part of and separate from the wider feud that Harry and Meghan Markle have with the monarchy. The brothers are said to have "started growing apart" sometime during the "late 2000s," according to a royal insider.
"I think when it comes to the Duke of Sussex, it is a classic case of spare jealousy," the source continued. "This was also seen to a lesser degree with Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II when they were young. Harry can blame William's not liking Meghan and who mummy loved more, etc., but at the end of the day, he is miffed that he will never be king."
Harry was the "spare" to Prince William's heir, and Prince Andrew was the then-Prince Charles's spare until the arrival of William in 1982. The so-called "spare syndrome" has long been an issue in the British monarchy.
But despite William and Harry perhaps never seeing eye-to-eye, sources are "hopeful" in the recent reunion with Harry and his father on February 6.
"I'm sure it was emotionally draining for both of them, but it was a step in the right direction. It was a positive move," another royal source observed. "Having flown overnight from Los Angeles, Prince Harry would have liked to have had more than the 30 minutes or so that was allotted before returning to California the following day, but he was grateful to be able to speak directly to his father and show his support for him."
A third insider picked up on this happy reunion by highlighting the other disappointing aspects of the fifth in line to the throne's brief return to his father's royal court.
"It would be the normal run of things to go and see your sister-in-law who's had a serious operation and also see your niece and nephews. But it isn't normal. It's terribly sad," they stated when referencing Kate, Princess of Wales' recovery from abdominal surgery. It is believed that the future queen "wants nothing to do" with her brother-in-law and may have personally shut down any sort of meeting.
