Prince Harry Snubs US Reunion with King Charles Despite ‘Reconciliation’ Hopes
King Charles and Prince Harry last met around six months ago after a long gap of almost 19 months.
Tensions between King Charles and his younger son, Prince Harry, have persisted for several years, especially since the intense fallout from Megxit and the release of Harry’s controversial memoir, Spare. However, in recent weeks, there has been constant speculation about a possible reconciliation between the two. Several media reports and insider claims have also hinted at ongoing efforts to repair their strained relationship, but a reconciliation won't be on the cards during the King's upcoming US state visit, according to a source close to the Duke of Sussex.
On Tuesday, the Buckingham Palace finally confirmed, "On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America," as reported by HELLO Magazine. Soon after this, the US President Donald Trump also shared a message on his Truth Social platform stating, “Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th."
While the King will be visiting the same country where Harry lives, along with Meghan Markle and their kids, a source has now confirmed that the Duke of Sussex will not travel to Washington, D.C., to meet his father this time. That said, Harry is open to reconciling with his family, as a person close to the younger prince had previously said, "I don't think he's [Harry] completely dropped the idea of feeling that he has been wronged in certain ways by the institution, but he would rather have the opportunity for reconciliation." They then went on to add, "With the passing of time, everything softens, especially when close family members are ill; that focuses the mind somewhat. He's willing to be a bit more at peace with things, rather than battling constantly. It's taken its toll."
As reported by HELLO Magazine, the pair last met around six months ago after a gap of almost 19 months. At the time, the Duke traveled to the UK to attend the prestigious WellChild Awards and spent about 54 minutes in a private tea meeting with his father. Additionally, it was in 2022 when Charles saw his grandchildren, as Harry and Meghan travelled to the UK to mark the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Meanwhile, a report suggests that Harry will make a decision about his potential visit to the UK later this year only if he is satisfied with his security arrangements.
On several instances, the Duke has spoken about how he doesn't feel safe in his home country (UK) anymore and doesn't want to put his wife and kids at risk. But a friend who is very close to Harry said last weekend, "If he [Harry] were invited by the King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in. He’d like an invite to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend on who was there. If the King was to say, 'Come up and spend some time with the family', he’d love that."
