Prince Harry and Prince William May Be Estranged ― But They’re Still Fighting for the Same Cause

Just days after Prince William championed climate action in London, Prince Harry delivered a passionate message on the same issue.

On Tuesday, Prince William arrived at Guildhall in an electric double-decker bus alongside Robert Irwin for the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly as part of the London Climate Action Week. The scorching heat that day certainly must have helped the Prince of Wales drive his point home through a moving speech. And now, two days after William’s outing, Prince Harry has also spoken for the climate in a new video appearance for his non-profit organisation, Travalyst.

The Duke of Sussex had started Travalyst in 2019, a year before he left the royal family, and has continued supporting it pro bono. The non-profit helps travellers, travel companies, and policymakers have more sustainable travels across the globe. The organization recently posted a one-minute video on YouTube featuring him titled Travalyst: changing travel, for good. Sporting a navy-blue T-shirt, Harry said, “Today, travel stands at a crossroads. It could be a catalyst for positive change, but also a source of environmental strain, driving emissions, overwhelming destinations, depleting the natural world it depends on.”

He further added that Travalyst was working towards building “something different”, as he said, “From tangled, fragmented data to a single source of truth. From hidden impacts to trusted, transparent choices. From siloed efforts to a powerful collective. From small tweaks to accelerating systems change.” Harry further mentioned that Travalyst intended to take travel “stuck in the past to travel that unlocks action from travellers, businesses, and communities”. He added, “From where we are to where we need to be.” The Duke concluded his inspiring statement by saying that travel had “the power to drive change” and that “together, we have the power to change travel for good”.

In present times, several royals are deeply invested in environmental efforts. King Charles may have been a pioneer within the royal fold. He is a staunch environmentalist and is passionate about food sustainability, energy conservation, and gardening. His efforts seem to have seeped into his two sons, William and Harry, who have taken his legacy forward.

While Harry spoke up about sustainable travel for London Climate Action Week, his older brother was “more optimistic than ever” that the Earthshot Prize initiatives have pushed a real change globally. However, royals have often faced criticism, since they continue to use private jets and large car entourages despite advocating for the climate. William too faced a similar reaction when he stepped out of the electric double-decker bus this week.

William and Harry seem to be on the same page when it comes to the environment. It is left to be seen whether they will ever be in the same room or not, as the Duke of Sussex is set to bring his family to the UK next month. And a reconciliation with Charles is reportedly on the itinerary. It will be interesting to see if the Prince of Wales joins the family reunion.
