Prince George One Step Closer to Eton Like Dad William — But Mom Kate Might Be ‘Heartbroken’

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who have been 'plagued by indecision' over Prince George's education, may have finally picked a school, but mom Kate Middleton will be 'heartbroken'. After much back-and-forth and countless debates about the best fit for their 12-year-old son, Prince William and Middleton are reportedly leaning toward Eton College, a school that has educated generations of royals. Middleton, however, allegedly prefers a different path.

While George had toured several schools, including his father’s alma mater, Eton College, and his mom’s co-educational pick, Marlborough College, the scales seem to be tipping in favor of the prestigious all-boys boarding school, which is just a stone’s throw from Windsor. According to royal expert Katie Nicholl, “Kate is heartbroken about the decision, and her preference is for George to be at a co-educational school, so he can be with his siblings... It was a very happy school life for her at Marlborough, with her sister, Pippa, and brother, James," the Cosmopolitan reported.
The Princess of Wales is known for her focus on children’s emotional well-being and early development, and she believes that a mixed, more relaxed environment like Marlborough would be the right fit for George. Adding to her concerns is the shadow of her own school experience. Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner shared with Fox News Digital, “School days for Kate at times were not the happiest as she experienced bullying, so she leaned more towards a less conventional education for George than William.” William, however, seems to have been firm in his preference.

Eton — where he spent his formative years alongside brother, Prince Harry — is familiar territory. It also comes with the advantage of being within the secure Windsor corridor, and reportedly still has room in its prestigious 'houses', including Manor House, where William and Harry were once placed. While George’s official placement hasn't been confirmed by Kensington Palace, sources recently told the Daily Mail that he’s already been allocated a house. Though Eton’s King's Scholars House is considered the most elite, insiders suggest George may follow in his father’s footsteps.

Still, the choice isn’t without complications as Headmaster Simon Henderson, nicknamed 'Trendy Hendy' for his modernization push at the 585-year-old institution, took an unexpected six-month leave between last August and January, a move that unsettled the Waleses and left them wondering about the school’s direction. It was during that leadership limbo that Middleton was spotted quietly visiting other options, including schools in North London and her beloved Marlborough, the Mail reported.
Broadcaster Helena Chard also told Fox News, “The discussions have been circulating for years… I’m surprised the bookies haven’t initiated a bet on which school Prince George will attend next autumn!” She added, “Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernize the monarchy. Plus, she’ll miss George desperately.”
