Meghan Markle’s Past Comment About Being 'Daddy's Girl' Come Under Fire After She Addresses Father's Scandal
Meghan Markle's earlier claims about her relationship with her father have now raised eyebrows in light of the horrid allegations against him.

In the last 48 hours or so, Meghan Markle found herself in a blinding media storm due to the horrifying allegations against her father, Thomas Markle Sr. Soon after, her half-brother went to the authorities after discovering child s*x images in Thomas's former Philippines home; the Duchess of Sussex released a statement on the matter. However, as saddening as the situation was, her claims gave rise to more questions than answers.

In her letter, Markle claimed that a letter was sent to the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection Command in 2018 detailing the “disturbing allegations” against her father. The letter was further shared with her, and that was the reason she had kept her children away from him all these years. It was in an effort to protect them. While it certainly must have been a gut-wrenching realization, critics pointed out her previous comments about her father that seemingly contradict her recent statement.
The Duchess said she had been a “Daddy’s girl” her “whole life” in the Sussexes’ 2022 Netflix docu-series. But in the light of recent revelations, the comments can sound baffling. Writing for the Daily Mail, Ian Gallagher wondered, “Referring to herself as 'a Daddy's Girl' strikes a rather odd note. If he was such a threat, why talk of him at all? And why use such a wholesome idiom, even retrospectively? Then again, much remains opaque in this story.”

In February 2019, Markle’s friends explained to PEOPLE the communication gap between the Duchess and her father. One friend was quoted as saying, “He writes her a really long letter... and he closes it by requesting a photo op with her. And she feels like, 'That's the opposite of what I'm saying. I'm telling you I don't want to communicate through the media, and you're asking me to communicate through the media. Did you hear anything I said?' It's almost like they're ships passing.” The comments hint that Markle may have wanted to reconcile with Thomas, a year after she allegedly became aware of his illicit activities.
Her pal had further mentioned, “He knows how to get in touch with her. Her telephone number hasn't changed. He's never called; he's never texted.” These previous comments about Markle and Thomas’s relationship have created more doubts than one could have expected.

However, Markle has not spoken to Thomas in eight years except in December 2025, when she reached out to him after his leg amputation.
