Meghan Markle Reveals the Real Reason She Kept Her Children Away From Her Father
Meghan Markle's distance from her father has much grimmer reasons than previously known.

Growing up, Meghan Markle was admittedly close to her father, Thomas Markle, and remained so up until a very public fallout in 2018. At the time, and in fact, till this week, their rift was attributed to Thomas staging photos for the paparazzi in the lead-up to his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry. However, as it turns out, the reality is far deeper and much grimmer than previously expected.

Except for one time in December 2025, following Thomas’s leg amputation, the Duchess of Sussex has severed contact with her father. She kept her two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, away from him. The move has earned her intense online criticism over the years. In a recent statement addressing the brickbats, Markle finally revealed why she did what she did, and it has a lot to do with Thomas’s involvement in illicit activities.
This week, Markle’s half-brother went to the police after discovering images of child s*x in Thomas’s former Philippines home. Following the news, the Duchess said in an official statement, “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason: to protect them.”

In a surprising revelation, Markle claimed that a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection detailing the “disturbing allegations” against her father in 2018, eight years before the news was made public. The letter was later shared with her, and she was reportedly assured that the claims were being “investigated”. She further added, “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”
"At the time, the allegations had not been substantiated, and Meghan was advised that speaking publicly about them could jeopardize any potential investigation," a source claimed via PEOPLE. "She was also concerned about the legal implications of publicly repeating unproven claims," they added. In her statement, Markle said that “the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine,” and she hoped that “justice” would be served. She also said the “priority” should be the “safety and protection of innocent children”.

The Duchess seemingly made efforts to protect her kids since learning about the "troubling" allegations against her father. Thomas hadn’t attended Markle and Harry’s 2018 wedding. King Charles had walked his new daughter-in-law down the aisle in his place, further highlighting the estrangement between Markle and her father.
