Meghan Markle's 45th Birthday Cake Had a Sweet Tribute to One of Her Favorite Hobbies
Meghan Markle celebrated her 45th birthday with a themed cake, heartfelt tributes from friends, and rare glimpses of the festivities.
Meghan Markle marked her 45th birthday with a celebration surrounded by close friends, and while she kept most of the festivities out of the spotlight, her closest friends shared heartwarming glimpses of the occasion, including a mahjong-themed birthday cake inspired by one of the Duchess' favorite hobbies.
One of the sweetest birthday moments came from Markle's friend Tracy Robbins, who shared a collage of photos on her Instagram Stories. Among them was a picture of the Duchess blowing out candles on a mahjong-themed birthday cake. The cake paid tribute to Markle's well-known love of mahjong. In With Love, Meghan, the Duchess revealed that she regularly hosts game nights with friends, affectionately calling the group her "Maj Squad."
The other photos of the post were snaps of them all posing for selfies and playing board games. Alongside the pictures, Robbins wrote, "Happy birthday to my partner in crime. Love doing life with you one bam bird at a time. Love you @meghan," making another playful reference to the game. Markle's longtime friend Kelly McKee Zajfen also celebrated the occasion online. Sharing a cheerful photo of the pair laughing together while wearing matching T-shirts, she wrote, "Happy birthday to this dream girl. @meghan you are so very loved."
The Duchess also shared a few glimpses of her birthday on her own Instagram account. One post showed her jumping into a swimming pool while holding a bouquet of balloons during an early birthday celebration in California. She also posted a fun video on her Instagram Stories of herself dancing in the kitchen while wearing a birthday crown, with Prince Harry recording her, giving followers another rare look into their life at home.
This year's birthday comes after an eventful few weeks for Markle and Harry. Last month, the couple, along with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, returned to the U.K. for the first time in four years, where they reunited with King Charles. The visit marked a significant family moment after years of security concerns that had kept Markle and the children away from Britain.
Although many royal watchers wondered whether Buckingham Palace would publicly acknowledge Markle's birthday following recent reports of improved family relations, no public birthday message was shared. Instead, attention within royal circles shifted to Princess Eugenie, who had welcomed her third child, a daughter. Sharing the good news on social media, the Princess uploaded a photo of the baby and captioned it, "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."
