Meghan Markle made her grievances with the royal family abundantly clear when she stepped down from her duties in 2020. Her relationship with the royals back in the UK soured especially after her Oprah Winfrey interview when spoke candidly about the challenges she encountered within the institution. All eyes are now again on Markle after the launch of her much-awaited Netflix series, With Love, Meghan. Expectedly, Markle made a subtle jab at the royal family in one scene while speaking about her £100 million streaming deal.

In the final episode of the series, Markle expressed gratitude for those closest to her—her friends, her husband Prince Harry, and her ever-supportive mother, Doria Ragland. As reported by The Independent, she said, “I just want to raise a glass to you guys. This feels like a new chapter that I’m so excited, that I’m able to share and I’ve been able to learn from all of you. So, I just thank you for all the love and support. All of that is part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much, so thank you for loving me so much and celebrating with me," as Harry watched and raised a glass to toast.

This acknowledgment of a 'new chapter' as Markle gradually finds her way back into the public eye, quickly became a talking point among netizens online, who flooded the comment sections with their two cents.

On X (formerly Twitter), a person shared, "It took 5 years to execute her new chapter, and she has had all that time to show her apparent creativity. I thought the freedom flight was their new chapter to break the generational pain. It's funny that she has never spoken about her aspirations of being a cook before." Similarly, another remarked, "No idea why she missed her creativity so much, I mean, what has she been doing for the last 5 years? Not much from what I can see, so she has had plenty of time to be creative." A critic mocked, "She's been in the royal fold for 72 days, how can she miss so much."

Subtle references to Markle’s turbulent royal past seem present throughout the series. In episode five, Abigail Spencer remarked stated that they have all been through a lot, before staring at Markle. In episode seven, the Duchess herself reflected on the concept of ‘healing’ while discussing Kintsugi, the Japanese art of mending broken pottery with gold, alongside Vicky Tsai. Markle stated that when something precious shatters, it isn’t ruined. Instead, the cracks become part of its beauty. She explained, "I just think that it felt symbolic of saying to anyone if you've been through something, you're not broken. It can be fixed, it can be sealed and healed at the same time."
