King Charles Displays a Sweet Photo of Meghan Markle at His Home — Is a Reunion Possible?
Prince Harry's September reunion with King Charles sparked hopes of a reconciliation. Now rumors swirl again after a photograph displayed at Clarence House caught the attention of royal watchers. The picture, which featured Meghan Markle on her wedding day, quietly reinforced the idea that the King still has a soft spot for his youngest son and daughter-in-law, refusing to let a few strained years outweigh his better judgment.
Queen Camilla recently welcomed specially-abled children from Helen & Douglas House and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity to Clarence House to help decorate her Christmas tree. She has hosted the event for the past 20 years, and this year, too, she had the kids decorate with Santa paying them a surprise visit. As the cameras captured the regal home decor, a single silver photo frame in the background ultimately stole the spotlight. It featured Markle alongside her father-in-law as he walked her down the aisle in 2018 after her estranged father, Thomas Markle, missed the ceremony after suffering a heart attack. The framed black and white photograph sat discreetly among others in the background, but spoke volumes about how the King feels about his daughter-in-law.
According to HELLO!, the photoframe has not always been on the desk but was added in 2020. The King reportedly didn't remove it even after Harry and Markle stepped down from his royal duties. The photo reflects the King's strong desire to have his family united, as alongside the silver frame, he had another family portrait. The said image was from Prince Louis's christening, where the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are seen posing for a happy picture with the Sussexes and the King.
The prospect of a royal reconciliation seems very much a possibility, especially if Harry's plea for a review of his state security goes in favor. Soon, we might get to see Charles reunite with his 'darling boy', said BBC correspondent Jennie Bond to The i Paper. “There’s no doubt that our elderly King would love to see his grandchildren. And, for all the bitterness of recent years, he still loves his youngest son, his ‘darling boy.’"
Previously in their Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, the Sussexes shared how Charles walking Markle down the aisle was a special moment. "Harry's dad is very charming, and I said to him, 'I've lost my dad in this,' so he, as my father-in-law, is very important to me," said the Suits alum. Harry also shared in the 2017 BBC documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, how his father was happy to support him and Markle after the latter's father couldn't attend at the last moment. "I asked him to, and I think he knew it was coming, and he immediately said, 'Yes, of course, I'll do whatever Meghan needs, and I'm here to support you.'"
