Meghan Markle recently released a statement about the “disturbing allegations” of child abuse against her father, Thomas Markle. It is no secret that the two have been estranged since 2018. For years, their fallout was attributed to Thomas’s relationship with the paparazzi. But that wasn’t the whole story, and the Duchess of Sussex reportedly kept her distance from her father to “protect” her children. However, now her statement has raised certain important questions as well.

In her statement, Markle claimed that “in 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection,” which was later shared with her. The letter reportedly detailed the 'troubling' allegations against Thomas, and the Duchess was 'assured' they were being 'investigated'. However, the horrifying claims were made public only recently, when Thomas’s son went to the police after discovering boxes of child s*x images at their home in the Philippines.
After the Duchess revealed the horrifying information she shared eight years ago, broadcaster Piers Morgan raised serious questions. In an X post, he wrote, “This Thomas Markle story is shocking, and if guilty, he must face full force of the law. But it raises a lot of questions: if police alerted Meghan in 2018 to allegations so serious she ended all contact, why was he not arrested? And why did she not go public to protect others?”

Despite his son’s sworn statement to the authorities, Thomas has denied possessing those disturbing images and has called the accusations “sick lies”. His daughter, Samantha Markle, has accused her brother of fabricating claims.
The Duchess has not been in contact with her father since 2018. In fact, he didn’t even attend her wedding to Prince Harry, and King Charles walked her down the aisle. However, Markle had reached out to him in December 2025 after he underwent a leg amputation.

This terrifying news could be another jolt to the monarchy, especially since the Sussexes are currently in the UK. However, the monarch had stated in no uncertain terms that the pair were private citizens and not a part of the Firm.
