Meghan Markle Finally Reveals Lilibet’s Accent — and It’s Not What Royal Fans Expected
Meghan Markle shares a rare glimpse of Lilibet, and her accent quietly settles a long-running royal debate
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry rarely ever post about their children on social media platforms, and even if they do, it is quite subtle. In a recent post, Markle shared a short clip on her story where Princess Lilibet’s voice can be heard. However, apart from her adorable chatter, something else caught the attention of fans entirely. Yes, Lilibet’s accent has been a matter of discussion among royal watchers, and we finally have an answer to the question: British or American?
The video shows her walking through a chicken coop with a friend when you suddenly hear Lilibet off-camera, clearly thrilled about her latest find. “Mom, I got another gray one!” she says, and it is that unmistakable American accent that really stands out! The Duchess responds with a warm, “Thanks, sweetheart,” as Lilibet briefly pops into frame in a pink dress, peeking into the coop.
For all the curiosity around how she might sound growing up between two worlds, this felt like a pretty clear answer: Lilibet’s tone leans very American, and not subtly either. Previously, Markle has actually opened up about this, saying it is a bit of a mix at home. The kids mostly sound American, which makes sense, given that they are growing up in California.
But every now and then, little British pronunciations slip in. That is largely down to Harry, whose accent still rubs off on certain words. She even got into the specifics during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show last year. Talking about those little crossover moments, the Suits actress pointed out how certain words come out sounding very British. “Zebra is a good one,” she said, laughing, adding that sometimes the kids will say things exactly like Harry. “They have these little moments where it comes out,” she explained.
Markle and Harry are also set to celebrate the seventh birthday of Prince Archie on May 6. The couple has kept the celebrations low-key for many years, and it is expected that the tradition will continue. Last year, she shared a rare photo of him from behind, standing by the ocean as the sun was setting and the whole moment bathed in that soft, golden light. It was not flashy or overdone, just quiet and personal. Her caption said it all: “Our son. Our sun. Happy 6th birthday to Archie!”
Recently, the Sussexes were also out and about in Australia, where they made several key appearances. This is the first time they have toured the country after their 2018 royal visit, before stepping down as working royals. They made their way through cities like Sydney and Melbourne, spending time with local communities and showing up for causes close to them, especially around mental health and support for veterans. Even though it was not a royal tour, it surely felt like one.
