Lip Reader Decodes What Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Said to Each Other at Recent Outing
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a full Valentine’s weekend, mixing romance with a bit of basketball fun. The couple was first seen enjoying dinner at Funke in Beverly Hills, an Italian restaurant believed to be one of their favorite spots. Soon after, they headed to California’s NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, where they were spotted sitting courtside and chatting comfortably throughout the match.
It was during the game that a lighthearted moment between them caught the attention of viewers. Lip reader Nicola Hickling told Royal Insider that Harry appeared to say, “I can’t explain it, there are so many rules.” Markle, laughing, is believed to have replied, “Explain it to me, I really don’t understand the game.” Harry then joked back, “I know that… I can’t always explain it over and over again.”
The outing came just a day after Meghan shared a personal Valentine’s post on Instagram. She uploaded a photo of Harry holding their four-year-old daughter, Lilibet, who was carrying red balloons. The picture appeared to be taken at sunset in their Montecito garden. “These two + Archie = my forever Valentines,” Markle captioned the image.
Before stepping out, Markle also had a sweet surprise for her husband from her brand, As Ever. Rather than organizing a formal preview for her new Valentine’s Day collection, the Duchess of Sussex decided to test it at home—with Harry as her official taster. On February 5, she shared a cozy video of the Duke sampling chocolates from As Ever’s collaboration with luxury chocolatier Compartés. The short clip showed Harry in a relaxed, off-duty mood, barefoot and joined by their dog, as he tried the treats. The setting felt easy with Harry happily indulging his sweet tooth.
Adding to the warmth of the moment was a glimpse into Harry’s personal world, visible in the background of the video. Hanging on the wall behind him was a handmade card that read, “Love You Papa”—likely a gift from Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, who are said to call him by that affectionate name. Placed beside the card was a framed photograph that could be identified as a portrait of Harry with his late mother, Princess Diana. Though only partially visible, the image is a familiar one: Diana in a white swimsuit, her short hair pushed back with sunglasses resting on her head, while a young Harry hugs her from behind, smiling.
The same photograph appears in Harry’s memoir, Spare, where he included it at the end of the prologue and wrote movingly about her. “Although my mother was a princess, named after a goddess, both those terms always felt weak, inadequate. People routinely compared her to icons and saints, from Nelson Mandela to Mother Teresa to Joan of Arc, but every such comparison, while lofty and loving, also felt wide of the mark. The most recognizable woman on the planet, one of the most beloved, my mother was simply indescribable; that was the plain truth,” he wrote.
