King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla often escape to the luxurious Sandringham Estate for holidays. Continuing with the late Queen's tradition, they recently hosted members of the royal family at the mansion for Christmas. Lord David Cholmondeley, who owns property in the neighborhood, recently opened up on what Charles is really like.

Cholmondeley lives four miles away from Sandringham in his sprawling Norfolk estate with his wife, Rose Hanbury, and their three children. Commenting on Charles’s strong work ethic, Cholmondeley told The Telegraph that “he never seems to stop.” When asked if the King and he were friends, he responded, “Well, he’s a wonderful neighbor, and we do meet up sometimes. He loves Norfolk and spending quiet time here and planting trees.” Speaking of the recent Antony Gormley art exhibition, the Earl added that Charles was 'fascinated by it,' but 'has his own tastes' that don't match his.

Charles also seems to appreciate his neighbor just as much. As reported by the Daily Express, Cholmondeley, whose real name is David Rocksavage, was appointed by Charles in 2023 to serve as his Lord-in-Waiting. Interestingly, his wife Rose Hanbury, aka Sarah Rose Cholmondeley, was rumored to be Prince William's mistress. The Cholmondeleys, who reside at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, are also neighbors to William and Kate Middleton. Rumors of the affair first circulated in 2019, however, the Marchioness has vehemently denied the same through her lawyers.

It was widely reported that both Middleton and Hanbury were considering ‘legal action’ against the affair rumors. A family source told StyleCast, “William and David [Rose’s husband] were in touch with each other over the weekend, not knowing whether to laugh or complain. Both wives are hurt by the suggestion that there is any argument or even a coolness between them. They have plans for future events involving their charity.” The insider added, “These hurtful rumors of a fallout are simply false.” Despite the awkward gossip, the Waleses and Cholmondeleys have been publicly spotted at common events and appear on good terms.

Now in his position as a Lord-in-Waiting, Cholmondeley would attend important royal events. Speaking of his new prestigious role, an insider told the Daily Beast, “He will be present at all important state and royal occasions and can even stand in for the King at diplomatic events.” They also chimed in on the affair rumors and added, “There has never been any enmity between Kate and Rose. The rumors were all a load of rubbish. The family is an ancient ally of the Crown.” Cholmondeley’s previous role as Lord Great Chamberlain involved carrying the late Queen’s crown at the State opening of Parliament.
