King Charles Shares Message on US's 250th Anniversary — Hours After William's Cheeky Dig
King Charles shared a sweet note with US President Donald Trump for the monumental day, a day after William's hilariously honest reply on the matter.
It’s the time of the year when one side of the pond will be pulling out their barbecues and fireworks, while the other will see all the celebrations from afar with a pinch of salt. Of course, it’s the 4th of July, the day the US gained independence. And this year is extra special as the country is marking its 250th anniversary. There may have been a lot of bad blood between the US and the UK, some two and a half centuries ago, but it is seemingly now water under the bridge. King Charles extended a message to US President Donald Trump on the monumental day, hours after his son, Prince William, gave his hilariously honest reaction on Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s podcast.
The official Instagram handle of the royal family shared an image of the American flag, with Charles’ message that read, “Through centuries of shared challenges and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people. As we look ahead to the next 250 years, I have no doubt we will continue to defend our shared values. The connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time.”
Although William also expressed feelings of “brotherhood” with the US when discussing the 250th anniversary on The New Heights Show, he first took an amusing dig. Jason asked the Prince of Wales, “America is turning 250 years this year. Be honest. Are you surprised we made it?” The future King of England didn’t skip a beat before answering, “There were times. There were times. Yeah.”
However, William further added, “But I'd like to think the U.K. and the U.S. would be together for those 250 years. It's a good brotherhood.” The former Eagles player agreed, saying, “It has been a really good brotherhood.”
Over the years, the 4th of July has come to mean different things for different royals. For Charles, it might mean exchanging goodwill with the US, but for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the day marks an important milestone in their love story. It was on the 4th of July ten years ago that the couple went on their second date in London, and the prince had brought cupcakes with red, white, and blue frosting for his future wife to mark the day her country gained independence from his.
Earlier this year, Charles and Queen Camilla traveled to the US to repair the UK’s ties with the country. It was one of the most significant tours in the monarch’s tenure, and he completed the hectic work trip with flying colors.
