King Charles Makes Major Change at Sandringham ― And Princess Charlotte Would Approve
King Charles’ latest Sandringham move could be a sweet win for sporty Princess Charlotte.
King Charles or better known as 'Grandpa Wales' to his three grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, has made a major change at Sandringham. And it happens to be one that Charlotte might be particularly happy about. The 11-year-old is already known for her love of sports, so her grandfather's latest move could be right up her street.
The King has always seemed to have a soft spot for Charlotte, and the feeling appears to be mutual. Charles has proudly worn friendship bracelets made by his granddaughter, while on a visit to Northern Ireland in May, he was handed a little gift especially for her. Rachel Rose, founder of jewellery company Empower Flower, gave Charles a beaded bag charm for Charlotte and the King to warmly reply, “Thank you, she will love that.” So perhaps it is fitting that Charles’ recent decision involves one of Charlotte’s favourite sports. He is set to upgrade the cricket facilities on his Norfolk estate, which is also home to Anmer Hall, where the Wales family spends time together.
Charles is proposing a new artificial cricket pitch at Sandringham & Dersingham Cricket Club, on the estate in Norfolk. According to the planning application submitted to King’s Lynn Council, the $12,000 facility would give both junior and senior players a more reliable place to train and play, without putting too much pressure on the club’s main grass pitch. The new surface would also mean the club can keep games and training going whatever the weather, while giving the main grass square a bit of a break. The plans say it would increase playing and training opportunities for people in the local community, particularly when wet weather or heavy use would otherwise put the turf under strain.
Charlotte’s love of cricket has already been put on full display. In a video shared by Prince William and Princess Kate for her 11th birthday, the young royal could be seen enjoying a game on a sandy Cornish beach, before running around with her younger brother Louis.
The Wales children have also settled back into their school routines after the summer break. Charlotte and Louis have returned to Lambrook School in Berkshire. Meanwhile, their older brother George has begun a new chapter of his own after starting at Eton College.
