Kate Middleton reportedly used her Christmas look to send a message of unity during the royal family’s annual Christmas church walk at Sandringham. Her carefully curated outfit drew attention far beyond festive tradition. Her look was widely interpreted as a subtle nod toward Princess Eugenie carrying broader significance amid Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's ongoing absence from public royal life.

According to The Express, there was quiet symbolism in Middleton’s fashion choice. She chose a brown check coat, and its warm hues closely resembled the outfit worn by Eugenie. Royal watchers know tartan and check patterns have been royal staples for a long time. But the similarity in the color patterns caught the attention of royal watchers against the backdrop of the former Prince's continued banishment from public life. Many believe it was Middleton’s subtle way of projecting unity after the family’s challenging year since his scandals.

The annual Sandringham walk on Christmas Day service is one of the biggest fixtures in the royal calendar. It’s known to convey unspoken messages about hierarchy and belonging within the royal family. Meanwhile, Middleton, for her part, is known for resorting to fashion as an effective tool for her soft diplomacy. She frequently relies on it to depict reassurance and continuity without words. Her choice to wear a tartan outfit to match Eugenie’s felt deliberate. It was not only grounded in tradition but also open to interpretation; a quiet solidarity with her cousins-in-law, as the York sisters face scrutiny for their parents' actions.

The last few weeks have been difficult for the sisters as Mountbatten-Windsor lost his titles and royal patronages after mounting pressure from the public following allegations of wrongdoings linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein. While he continues to deny the allegations, his fall from grace saw him be permanently exiled. He has not been present at any official royal events after October and is believed not to have been invited to the annual Sandringham walk.

Despite Montbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson being ostracized, their daughters have continued to make their presence at select royal gatherings. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, made a surprise appearance as they joined Princess Beatrice and the rest of the senior royals for the church walkabout.

The York sisters' presence at the walk and King Charles’ pre-Christmas lunch have sparked intense discussion about their position in the royal family. Speaking to GB News, royal commentator Laura Windsor made a clear distinction between the disgraced royal and his daughters. She explained, “Well, they’re just the offspring, aren’t they? They have really nothing to do with what their father has allegedly done. They’re part of the family, and quite rightly, they should be invited to family events.”
