It’s no secret that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle never saw eye to eye, often clashing because of their different upbringings and way of life. Prince Harry didn’t hold back either, revealing that Middleton treated Markle poorly and even made her cry. Reflecting on Middleton's behavior with Markle, royal author Katie Nicholl has highlighted a pattern of the Princess always finding it hard to connect with her brother-in-law’s girlfriends.

Nicholl cited Middleton's tense relationship with Harry’s ex, Chelsy Davy, as an example. Harry and Davy began dating in 2004, and their relationship lasted on and off for several years until 2011. As reported by She Knows, Nicoll wrote in her book, Kate: The Future Queen, "Kate had made an effort to befriend Chelsy, inviting her clothes shopping, but Chelsy had turned the offer down, leading to a coolness between them." Nicholl claimed that Middleton and Davy didn’t get along well, mainly because of their different personalities and Davy’s reluctance to connect with her. The author described their relationship as 'lukewarm', noting that Harry's ex got along better with Middleton's sister, Pippa.

According to Nicholl, while Middleton and Davy started off on icy terms, their relationship seemed to have later improved over their shared anxiety about meeting the late Queen Elizabeth at Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s 2008 wedding. The author revealed that Middleton was 'grateful' that Harry and Davy had been invited, as "she didn’t know many of the guests." Reportedly, Davy even helped Middleton save face when she asked Harry to tone down a racy joke on the Princess's 'killer legs' before her 2011 wedding to Prince William. Harry and Davy broke up shortly after the royal wedding.

As for Middleton's frosty relationship with Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not stayed silent about the Princess's bickering and alleged mistreatment. As per PEOPLE, Harry revealed in his memoir, Spare, that Middleton made Markle cry ahead of their 2018 royal wedding. He wrote that she texted Markle four days before the big day, saying, "Charlotte's dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home." After a 'back and forth' between the sisters-in-law over text, the Duke claimed he "found Meg on the floor, sobbing." He recounted, "I was horrified to see her so upset."

The Duke of Sussex detailed another alleged incident of an icy exchange between Middleton and Markle. He penned, "Meg asked to borrow Kate's lip gloss...Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube. Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced. Small clash of styles, maybe." He also claimed that Middleton’s tension stemmed from knowing that her comparisons to Markle would be inevitable and that she did not want a close relationship with her.
