Donald Trump Slams Prince Harry and Meghan in Fresh Attack: “I Wouldn't Have Taken Them Back”
The President of the United States issued a blistering attack on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the Oval Office amid their return to the UK
President Donald Trump says he is “happy” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the U.S in a renewal of criticism of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The 47th President told reporters at the White House that he was pleased The Duke and Duchess had decided to return to the UK, as he declared that he was “not a fan” of the couple in the Oval Office. He later accused the Sussexes of showing “great disrespect” toward the Royal Family and said that if the decision were his, he would not have welcomed them back into the fold. Trump lavished praise on King Charles III as he also recalled his close relationship with Queen Elizabeth II.
He told the gathered media: "I had a very good relationship with the Queen. Really good. I got to know her very well. A really good relationship with King Charles. I knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s great, great guy."
Over the last few years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have undertaken several projects that many have deemed controversial. They famously sat down with Oprah Winfrey on CBS, which was broadcast in March 2021. As Prince Philip remained unwell, the pair accused unnamed members of the Royal Family of speculating on the colour of their son, Prince Archie's skin colour. Meghan also opened up about her mental health struggles during her time within the institution. Later, the pair went into more detail in their six-part Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. The Duke of Sussex also released his own bombshell memoir, Spare, in which he appeared to be critical of his stepmother, Queen Camilla.
Sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their sensational return to Britain, six years after stepping back from frontline royal duties and moving their family to Montecitio, California. Although they have made a comeback to Harry's home country, it's widely thought the duo will not be undertaking royal duties. Meghan is thought to be in 'advanced discussions' to star in Guy Ritchie's hit Netflix drama series, The Gentleman whilst Prince Harry's battle with RAVEC to obtain armed security for his family remains ongoing.
But the President lambasted the pair, as he felt they treated senior members of the firm poorly, saying: "I thought they treated the royal family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it." The former Apprentice host continued: "I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles." He added: "I wouldn’t have taken them back. If I were in the Royal Family, I would not have taken him back."
The remarks bring a fresh, high-profile intervention from the U.S. president into the Sussexes’ relationship with the monarchy, just days after the family landed at Birmingham airport to begin their "extended stay" within the country.
