The mystery surrounding Meghan Markle’s possible return to acting grows with Netflix making a cryptic remark. For the unversed, the Duchess of Sussex has been rumored to take up a possible role in Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix series The Gentlemen. While some reports suggest that Markle's name has been dropped, others suggest that she is still a strong contender for the role. Now, Netflix has weighed in, which has left fans guessing even more.

Markle had taken a hiatus from acting after marrying Prince Harry in 2018, but is now gradually making a possible comeback. She has already shot for a role in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios comedy film Close Personal Friends. Now, reports say that she is in discussions with Ritchie about appearing in The Gentlemen. However, those claims were later questioned, with royal experts arguing Netflix was not aware of any deal involving the Duchess.

The timing of the rumors is particularly interesting as the show is set and being shot in the UK. The couple returned to British soil on August 26 after 6 years in the US. Some insiders have claimed that conversations between Markle and Ritchie may have been leaked as a PR stunt to boost her potential acting comeback. Now, Netflix has seemingly added to the mystery.

When discussing the future of The Gentlemen, the streaming giant said, “Your guess is as good as anyone’s as to what’s coming in the third season,” before adding, “All bets are off.” According to Nine.com.au, while Netflix did not mention Markle by name, a source described the statement as “very nuanced” and suggested it could be a deliberate nod to the rumors. They added, “It’s tipping a wink to all the chatter. Are they trying to stir it up? If this is PR spin, then it’s genius.”

Discussing the upcoming season, the series's creator and director Ritchie meanwhile told Netflix, “The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded, and the consequences carry weight. A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.” For now, there is still no official confirmation that Markle will appear in The Gentlemen.
