Andrew’s ‘Behavior’ Leaves Charles 'Furious', Sources Say King Is ‘Barely Tolerating’ Him
Sibling rivalries are a given in the royal household, especially with the 'heir and spare' hierarchical order. It's the same for King Charles and Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, but in their case, the tension is understandable, with one being the sovereign and the other tarnishing the image of the Crown with his many scandals. What began as childhood envy has hardened into a full-blown rift, now unfolding under the glare of public judgment.
According to Palace insiders, Charles’s patience with Mountbatten Windsor has all but evaporated in recent months. Charles, who has spent his reign attempting to tighten the monarchy’s image and streamline its ranks, is said to be increasingly exasperated by his brother’s refusal to quietly fade from the spotlight. “He can barely tolerate him due to his inappropriate behavior and fall from grace,” royal commentator Helena Chard told Fox News. Behind closed doors, the King is apparently tired of cleaning up after Mountbatten Windsor’s scandals while trying to preserve the dignity of the Crown.
The divide between them, however, did not reportedly emerge overnight. Insiders trace the tension to their childhood. Charles, born four years before his mother became queen, spent much of his early life under the shadow of duty. “As a child, then-Prince Charles openly cried for his parents as they traveled the Commonwealth for months on end,” Chard said. “In fact, they banned him from seeing them off in public as he wore his heart on his sleeve.”
His mother, suddenly thrust into the role of sovereign, had little time for nurturing. Mountbatten Windsor, by contrast, was the golden boy who arrived once the late Queen had settled into her role. “Prince Andrew, on the other hand, was the pampered prince,” Chard said. “He received doting love from his mother, who enjoyed spending time with her child… I imagine Prince Andrew was thoroughly spoiled, truly mollycoddled.” It’s a dynamic that reportedly left Charles both distant and quietly resentful.
And fast forward to today, that gap has only widened. Buckingham Palace’s recent announcement — formally stripping Mountbatten Windsor of all remaining titles and honors — was a sign of the King's firm hand. The Palace confirmed that Mountbatten Windsor, 65, would no longer be styled as 'Prince' or hold the title 'Duke of York.' Instead, he will go by his birth name. “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honors of Prince Andrew,” the statement read, noting that the move was made in light of ongoing concerns about the monarchy’s reputation.'
Chard spoke of Charles as disciplined, 'sensitive,' and focused on his royal duties. On the other hand, his younger brother, once dubbed 'the playboy prince,' is more impulsive and carefree, making them almost like 'chalk and cheese.'
Adding to the sting, Mountbatten Windsor has also been asked to leave his longtime home, the 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor. It was also reported that he will relocate to a smaller residence on the Sandringham estate, which will be privately funded by the monarch.
