Andrew 'Will Be Made an Offer He Can't Refuse' Over Line of Succession, Says Royal Author

Tom Bower claims Buckingham Palace dispatched representative to Sandringham as 82 per cent of Britons back calls for Andrew's removal from the throne.

The walls, it seems, are closing in on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and any last threads of his royal life that he was hanging on to are set to be snapped. If royal author Tom Bower is to be believed, Buckingham Palace has already dispatched someone to deliver that very message in person.

Bower, whose forthcoming book Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family has already ruffled some feathers, made the claim in an interview with The Sun's editor-at-large, Harry Cole, GB News reported. According to the author, a representative was sent from the Palace to Sandringham last Saturday with a singular request — that Mountbatten-Windsor voluntarily relinquish his place in the line of succession. "As I understand it, someone went up to Sandringham last Saturday from the Palace to suggest to Andrew that you voluntarily give up the succession, and he can do that," Bower said. "He can sign a form saying 'he renounces the succession.' That ends it straight away, and that would be the cleanest solution."

The emissary, it appears, was under no illusions about the nature of their errand. Bower quoted the representative as acknowledging the uncomfortable task they had been handed: “They gave me the dirty work to do, but it's a good thing that they've started it, and that's the way to handle it."

In other words, it was a message delivered with velvet gloves. Whether Mountbatten-Windsor will comply, however, is another matter. Bower also very openly stated, "I think that he'll be made an offer he can't refuse... because in the end, he is totally dependent on his brother." Should Mountbatten-Windsor decline to go quietly, the alternative path is considerably more complex — any formal removal from the line of succession would require an Act of Parliament.

Mountbatten-Windsor currently sits eighth in line to the throne, behind Prince William and his three children, and Prince Harry and his two. Yet his position has become increasingly untenable in the wake of the release of the Epstein files, which reportedly picture and name him on multiple occasions. Public sentiment, meanwhile, has shifted decisively against him.

A YouGov survey found that 82 per cent of Britons now believe Mountbatten-Windsor is no longer fit to remain in the line of succession. Crucially, that mood extends well beyond British shores. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has written directly to Sir Keir Starmer to signal his government's backing for any proposal to remove the disgraced former Prince from the succession. "These are grave allegations and Australians take them seriously," Mr Albanese wrote. New Zealand has echoed that position, with a spokesman for Prime Minister Christopher Luxon confirming: "If the UK Government proposes to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the order of succession, New Zealand would support it." To date, not a single Commonwealth nation has indicated any opposition to the move.
