Martha Stewart Takes a Swipe at Meghan Markle’s Post-Royal Career: ‘It Doesn’t Follow’
Renowned television personality Martha Stewart is weighing in on Markle’s transition into the lifestyle world, offering a candid assessment.
Meghan Markle's career trajectory has evolved significantly over the years, from starring roles in film and television to shouldering responsibilities as a Duchess after marrying Prince Harry. However, the most steady and remarkable aspect of her journey has been as a lifestyle brand owner. Markle has made quite a name for herself through her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan and the launch of her As Ever brand; embracing cooking, entertaining, and homemaking as the focus of her post-royal career. While these ventures have drawn plenty of attention, they have also sparked a lot of debate.
Renowned television personality Martha Stewart is weighing in on Markle’s transition into the lifestyle world, offering a candid assessment of the Duchess of Sussex’s latest career move. In a recent conversation with People, the 85-year-old opened up about the former actress stepping into a space she has long dominated. Stewart revealed that the two recently crossed paths at a dinner party in California, shortly after the Duchess returned from a trip to the UK with Harry and their two children.
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace,” shared Stewart, before continuing, “I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it." The Martha Stewart Show alum did not elaborate on what Markle said about her trip to the UK, she reflected on the Duchess's transition from an actress to an aspiring homemaking guru.
“If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show,” Stewart told the outlet, adding, “It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there." Markle has steadily built her lifestyle brand since stepping back from royal duties alongside Harry in 2020. After relocating to the United States, the couple pursued a variety of media and business ventures. Earlier this year, Markle expanded her focus on food, hosting, and home with the launch of her As Ever brand, which arrived just weeks after With Love, Meghan premiered on Netflix.
This is not the first time Stewart has commented on Markle’s new direction. In July 2025, she told Yahoo Lifestyle, “I hope she knows what she’s talking about." Stewart continued, “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important." However, the lifestyle icon made it clear she has no issue with newcomers entering the field, noting that she did not “mind” the idea of having successors and wished them all “good luck."
