Andrew Defended By Unexpected Allies Amid Ongoing Scrutiny: 'He’s Extremely Sensitive and Kind'
Moving past the 'Randy Andy' label, Andrew’s exes, Victoria Hervey and Kim Deas, are speaking out to reveal a much softer side of him.
Although Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's reputation now is heavily damaged owing to his controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein, back in the 1980s, he made headlines for a very different reason. Frequently photographed with attractive women, he was dubbed 'Randy Andy,' a tongue-in-cheek name for his alleged womanizing lifestyle. Now, two of his former girlfriends, Lady Victoria Hervey and model Kim Deas, are pushing back against that narrative, arguing that the former prince's kind nature was at odds with the image portrayed by the media.
As reported by OK! magazine, Deas spoke fondly of her time with the former Duke of York, dismissing his public reputation. "People think that because he's so good-looking, he's not a nice person. But he's extremely sensitive and kind," she revealed, adding that he didn't live up to his "Randy Andy" nickname and was "simply a good friend." The two dated briefly during Andrew's bachelor years, well before his 1986 marriage to Sarah Ferguson, with whom he shares two daughters. His other high-profile relationship was with American actress and photographer Koo Stark, whom he dated in the early 1980s; Stark was known as one of his first serious partners.
Another one of his outspoken exes, Lady Victoria Hervey, has frequently made headlines for defending the former Duke of York. Following the public exposure of his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, Hervey spoke to LBC, arguing that Andrew’s actions were misunderstood. "It's very hard for anyone to kind of try and imagine being in his [Andrew's] shoes. But he's a male, he's single, he needs to date." She stressed that his association with the disgraced financier was innocent, adding, "They'd known each other for a long time at this point, and he [Andrew] sort of thought, 'OK, well, he [Epstein] knows beautiful women,' and, you know, there's like so many other people out there, and no one's talking about it."
However, many royal insiders and commentators present a very different story, asserting that Prince Andrew had multiple affairs even after his wedding. In his book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, royal biographer Andrew Lownie quoted a former driver who claimed the Duke had intimate relations with more than a dozen women before his first anniversary with Sarah Ferguson. The book also features a quote from a model who recalled, "He told me he had an open-marriage arrangement with his wife. I felt like he used me for a few days so he could live his wildest fantasies."
