Harry and Meghan Allegedly Worried About What Fergie Might Reveal in Potential Tell-All Memoir
With no royal role, no income, and her reputation bruised by the Epstein files, Sarah Ferguson may have little reason to stay quiet.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have no shortage of critics willing to speak publicly about their royal exit. But according to one royal expert, it is a more unexpected figure — Sarah Ferguson — who may be giving them genuine cause for concern.
Tom Sykes, on his Substack, The Royalist, has claimed that Harry and Markle are privately uneasy about the prospect of Ferguson revealing details of behind-the-scenes conversations surrounding their 2020 departure from the Royal Family. In 2020, the Sussexes put out a public statement, penning down the details of their exit.
"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen." They spoke about their idea to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".
Sykes, writing about the same, said, "One report even suggested Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are privately anxious that Ferguson could lift the curtain on behind-the-scenes conversations around their own exit from royal life. Courtiers, for their part, fear a 'pulling a Harry' scenario: a big-money deal in exchange for a narrative the institution cannot control." Whether Ferguson was privy to private discussions during that period is unknown — but Sykes argues she is both motivated and equipped to tell a story if she chooses to.
He noted that she "has already proved that she is willing to write things that upset the palace," adding that a tell-all autobiography from her "would be sensational." This will not be a first for Ferguson. She has authored or co-authored more than 60 titles across her career, spanning children's books to lifestyle guides, and has spent decades cultivating a publishing profile in the United States and beyond.
Sykes also noted that despite being stripped of her privileges, Ferguson's appetite for the finer things remains unchanged. She reportedly spent close to a month this past winter at Paracelsus Recovery in Switzerland, a discreet, high-end wellness clinic where a single night can run around $17,000. According to Tom, Fergie has found herself in an increasingly precarious position since being forced out of Royal Lodge — bouncing between borrowed villas, Gulf boltholes, and high-end retreats, including one in Donegal, Ireland. Friends have described her as 'hard up, homeless, and alone.'
Her circumstances, Sykes suggests, may also be pushing her in that direction. Ferguson currently holds no official royal role and receives no public funding. Following the most recent release of Jeffrey Epstein's files by the U.S. Department of Justice — which revealed she had referred to the convicted offender as her "supreme friend," thanked him for being the "brother" she "always wished for" in 2009, and privately apologized to her "dear friend" just a month after publicly distancing herself from him in 2011 — a number of her charitable associations severed ties with her. According to Sykes, she "needs money" and knows exactly how to get it.
