Why Meghan Markle's Feud With the Beckhams May End Up Messier Than Her Royal Fallout
Meghan Markle has often positioned the royal family as the main source of conflict during her life in the UK. But royal commentators now warn that a far more difficult challenge could come from elsewhere — the Beckham family, who are seen as experienced, strategic, and highly protective of their public image. The discussion follows reports that Brooklyn Beckham may be considering a high-profile interview, potentially in the style of an Oprah Winfrey sit-down, after publicly speaking about tensions within his family. According to those reports, Markle has offered support and guidance to Brooklyn during the fallout.
The issue was raised during a broadcast on Sky News, with the anchor asking commentator Esther Krakue whether it was wise for Brooklyn to seek advice from the Duchess of Sussex. “Well, finally, I have to talk to you about the Beckhams. It appears an Oprah Winfrey sit-down interview could be on the cards for Brooklyn Beckham, following reports that Markle has been offering herself as a mentor following this family breakup bombshell. The 26-year-old has apparently been receiving support from the Duchess of Sussex since he posted on Instagram about his family and the breakdown.”
Krakue said, “Well, obviously not. And, you know, usually these kinds of kind of insider scoops are usually quite dubious at the best of times. However, there is a form for this to actually have some credibility.” Krakue pointed out that the Beckhams and the Sussexes were once on friendly terms. David and Victoria Beckham attended Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding, and the footballer had occasional contact with the Duke through royal events. However, she said the relationship later broke down. “We do remember that the Beckhams were actually at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding… But it wasn't really a close friendship. And then we find out a few years later that the couple had fallen out, allegedly because the Sussexes didn't trust the Beckhams and they felt like they were the source of leaks about their private lives. So they cut off that relationship.”
According to Krakue, Markle may see similarities between her own experience and Brooklyn’s situation. “There is some form that Meghan Markle might see herself in Brooklyn Beckham, with the slight exception that her parents are not billionaires and that, you know, her mother was not a Spice Girl.”
However, Krakue warned that the Beckhams operate very differently from the royal family when it comes to public disputes, largely because they are not bound by Palace convention or a tradition of restraint. Instead of relying on silence, the Beckhams have spent decades actively managing their public image and responding to scrutiny on their own terms. “Obviously, it would be a mistake for Brooklyn Beckham to entertain any more media around his family… The Beckhams are not amateurs. They are not like the royal family that will say recollections may vary and just keep a dignified silence about this.”
She added that the family’s long experience dealing with tabloids, interviews, and brand protection makes them far more willing to confront issues head-on if they believe their reputation is at stake. “The Beckhams are very, very well-seasoned media operators. And if they have to go against their own son, they will.”
