'Tension' Between Harry and Meghan as Couple Allegedly on 'Completely Different Paths'

Sources say the couple are at odds behind the scenes—and their itinerary may already be telling that story.

Wherever Prince Harry and Meghan Markle go, scrutiny follows—it has become as much a part of their story as anything else. But ahead of their much-anticipated return to Australia next month, it appears the couple has turned that scrutiny inward, finding themselves at odds over what the trip should look like and what it should stand for. Before the world gets a chance to weigh in, it seems, the Sussexes are already disagreeing amongst themselves.

Harry and Markle are set to return to Australia in mid-April, their first visit Down Under in over seven years. Technically, it reads as an interesting overseas engagement; in practice, however, sources say the trip is already proving to be a flashpoint, not just within royal circles but within the Sussex household itself. "The Sussexes' planned visit to Australia next month is already creating waves inside royal circles. But the tensions are also playing out between Harry and Meghan themselves," an insider reveals, per Closer.

The disagreement, according to those close to the couple, is not only about logistics. "Behind the scenes, the couple are locked in a battle over what the trip should look like and what message it should send," the source says.

Harry, it is claimed, wants the Australian visit to carry the weight and seriousness of a proper royal tour—a chance to demonstrate that he and Markle can still command the kind of dignified global presence expected of working royals. Markle, meanwhile, is said to be drawing inspiration from an entirely different kind of public figure. "Meghan wants the trip to feel more like Angelina Jolie coming to town. She is a huge admirer of how Angelina balances her humanitarian work with global influence, and that is the model she wants to follow," the insider adds.

"In her view, they are both Hollywood heavyweights and royal figures. They are passionate about getting this right. But they are coming at it from different perspectives, and it’s starting to feel that Meghan's future vision is not aligning with Harry’s—their paths are completely different," the insider added.

Those differing ambitions are already visible in the itinerary. While in Sydney, Markle will headline a women-only weekend retreat at the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach—a three-day event organized by Besties, the company founded by radio host Jackie O Henderson and her close friend Gemma O'Neill. Billed as Her Best Life Retreat, the event is described as "an unforgettable weekend for women ready to reconnect, recharge, and have some serious fun." Markle will appear as a special guest speaker for a fireside chat Q&A, with tickets starting at $2,699 per person. VIP ticket holders—paying $3,199—will receive a group photo with the Duchess and front-row seating at the gala dinner.

The trip comes at a sensitive time for the couple. Markle's Netflix partnership, which centered on her As Ever lifestyle brand, came to an end this month, adding a layer of professional uncertainty to an already closely watched period. Rumors of a solo career have been swirling around the Duchess, while whispers from the other direction suggest Harry may be quietly considering some form of rapprochement with the royal family.
