Trigger Warning: This article contains themes of child abuse and potentially distressing material that some readers may find distressing.

Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., has been accused of child abuse. In a statement, the Duchess expressed deep distress and confirmed she had previously been warned about "serious allegations." Reports indicate that in 2019, the Metropolitan Police received a letter from an anonymous source containing several claims about Markle Sr., which was subsequently shared with the Sussexes.

According to the BBC, the letter sent to the Metropolitan Police detailing claims about Markle Sr. was written by his ex-wife, Roslyn Loveless. On Saturday, the Met confirmed receiving a 2019 letter concerning the retired television lighting director, which was subsequently shared with Harry and Markle.

Separate allegations have emerged that images of child sexual abuse purportedly linked to Markle Sr., 82, were discovered in his former home in the Philippines, which he has denied. Loveless, who passed away in 2024, was the mother of Meghan's half-siblings, Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr. She divorced Markle in 1975, prior to his 1979 marriage to Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland. The Duchess of Sussex is the couple's only child.

According to ITV, the MET confirmed that the contents of the letter were shared only with the Sussexes and not with law enforcement agencies in the US or Mexico, where Markle Sr. was living at the time. They also stated that the letter was addressed specifically to the specialist unit of the Metropolitan Police called the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated that the force is "considering whether a referral to the IOPC is necessary to review our approach."

In the letter, Loveless accused her ex-husband of indecent behavior towards children, noting that he strongly denied the allegations when she confronted him. She further accused him of traveling to the Philippines and Thailand for sex with minors, which he firmly denied, calling the allegations "sick lies." Although he acknowledged paying for sex, Markle Sr. maintains that he has never engaged with anyone under 18 and is committed to clearing his name.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex stated that she ceased communication with her father after receiving a letter from his first wife in January 2019, claiming it was for the protection of her children. Reportedly, investigations by police in Cebu, Philippines, where Markle Sr. was living until recently, are ongoing.
