The controversy surrounding the horrifying allegations against Thomas Markle has seen an unprecedented domino effect, with previously withheld information being disclosed in rapid succession by all parties involved. Hours after the news broke about Thomas’s son going to the authorities after discovering disturbing photos in his father’s former Philippines home, Meghan Markle released a statement making shocking revelations of her own. The Metropolitan Police have now released a statement addressing her claims.

The Duchess of Sussex said that in 2018, she sent a letter to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection about the 'troubling' allegations against her father. The letter was further shared with her, and she was reportedly assured that the claims were being “investigated”. It is believed that the letter was shared with her after her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. Thomas did not attend the wedding following a last-minute fallout with his daughter after he allegedly staged photos for the paparazzi in the lead-up to the high-profile ceremony. The Duchess of Sussex has not been in contact with her father ever since, except for when she reached out to him in December 2025 following his leg amputation.

It is now being reported that the Met Police did not previously investigate Thomas and is not currently launching a probe. This could be because Thomas may never have traveled to the UK. However, the force is conducting an internal inquiry into the “passing on” of the 2018 letter. “We are aware of media reports that officers from the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection Command were involved in the passing on of a letter in 2018. We are undertaking enquiries internally in an effort to confirm this,” a Met spokesperson said.

Considering that the child s*x images and incriminating material were allegedly found in Thomas’s former Philippines home, a special unit within the country is investigating the claims. The FBI has also been made aware of the discovery and is considering its own probe. The unit may also launch an investigation in collaboration with Philippine authorities.  The Department of Justice (DOJ) in the Philippines confirmed on Friday that it was investigating reports involving “an American national in his 80s” accused of leaving child abuse videos and photos in his home in the Cebu province. The Anti-Trafficking and OSAEC (Online S*xual Abuse and Exploitation of Children) task force is “currently investigating the matter”.

Thomas had returned to the US earlier this year. He and his daughter, Samantha Markle, have denied the allegations, with the former calling them “sick lies”. However, the Duchess stated clearly that she kept her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, away from their maternal grandfather to protect them.

While Markle and Harry may be private citizens in the UK now, their connection to the monarchy can’t be denied. On the royal front, a source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail, “This is a matter for the Sussex household.”
