Sarah Ferguson Heads Overseas as Royal Lodge Eviction Continues to Spur Search for a New Home
After her scandalous friendship with Jeffrey Epstein was exposed, Sarah Ferguson lost everything, including her title, her privileges, and her beloved home of 20 years. With the royal family distancing themselves and ordering her to vacate Royal Lodge, the former Duchess of York is now said to be carefully weighing her next move. According to reports, she is heading overseas for several weeks to reflect on her options, amid speculation about her impending departure and whether she will stand by her ex-husband's side.
According to PEOPLE, Ferguson has to vacate Royal Lodge after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was ordered to surrender its lease. The outlet understands that she will be leaving the UK for several weeks on a temporary trip to reflect on her current situation and consider a potential relocation abroad. In December 2025, her spokesperson stated, "She is assessing a number of options currently, and no final decision has been made." At that time, a source also revealed that Fergie was "looking for a place in Windsor," adding that she and Mountbatten-Windsor had reportedly been given a move-out date of January 31.
Shortly after news of Mountbatten-Windsor's eviction and relocation to Sandringham came to light, an insider stressed that Ferguson would be moving into a separate home. They continued, "Contrary to reports, she has never asked for a property or any provision for herself. She will continue to forge an independent life." Another added that she will reportedly find her own place and is "going to move forward independently."
Similarly, a source told HELLO! that the former Duchess was allegedly done with her ex-husband and is 'ready to spread her wings.' They spilled, "She won't be moving into Beatrice's Cotswolds home, though. Eugenie's home in Portugal is a contender while she finds somewhere." Insiders have also rejected the idea that Fergie would be moving to Portugal full-time or relocating to a so-called 'granny annexe' near Beatrice's property.
Instead, it is believed that she is actively searching for a private residence. The source added, "Sarah is still very upset at everything that has happened," pointing to the toll of her public fallout on her mental health. Meanwhile, Mountbatten-Windsor is expected to move into Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate by Easter. According to The Sun, construction equipment has been seen operating on the grounds, with laborers moving between the house and an adjacent outbuilding to prepare the residence for his arrival.
