Sarah Ferguson Has ‘Abandoned' Andrew as Royal Family Fears She Could Go 'Rogue': Expert
Since her marriage into the royal fold, Sarah Ferguson has been the greatest comeback artist of all time, the figure who has weathered scandal, reinvented herself, and somehow managed to resurface. She was once described as ‘Houdini’ with nine lives. But now, it is assumed that her lives have come to an end. According to one royal expert, Ferguson has effectively 'abandoned' Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, and her next move is set to reveal more about her plans.
Fresh attention on previously known dealings with Epstein has pushed Ferguson back under a spotlight she has long tried to outrun. Additionally, with the rest of Epstein's files ready to be made public, it’s all the more dangerous for the couple. Richard Fitzwilliams, a veteran commentator, told the Express that the former duchess may be weighing her options. “If she is after a fast buck, she might well go back on Oprah or choose another outlet,” he said. “This would give her publicity.” He noted that she had managed rebounds in the past, even after charities distanced themselves over “proved” lies about her Epstein connections, but he doubts the public appetite remains. Her trajectory now depends, he said, on “what her priorities are, how much money she actually has, and what her plans are.”
“She is discredited and appears to have abandoned Andrew insofar as we know,” he said, pointing out that there is still more to come. Referencing interviews given by Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of The Yorks, he said, “a large amount is yet to be revealed, which could prove extremely embarrassing to her.”
After losing their remaining titles and honours, both Ferguson and Andrew have retreated from public life, though sources say she has felt the impact far more acutely. Without the buffering effect of shared status, she has found herself, as one insider put it to The Sun, suddenly alone. “There’s a danger of her going rogue and saying things that could cause embarrassment for King Charles and Queen Camilla, or other members of the family,” the source warned.
American producers appear to sense some opportunity for themselves. Oprah Winfrey, whose interviews can shift a narrative overnight, is reportedly among those interested. But unlike their earlier conversations, another sit-down now would unfold under far darker circumstances, with far higher stakes. Ferguson’s history with Epstein has hung over her for years, and she allegedly knows that silence cannot shield her indefinitely. Still, she is being cautious. Those close to her say she is “thinking things over very carefully” to avoid anything resembling the “Maitlis scenario” (Newsnight interview) that torpedoed her former husband’s standing.
And yet, despite the risk, some around Ferguson believe another interview might be her best path forward, not to exonerate Andrew, but to separate herself from him entirely. One source told the same outlet, “She and her team know a televised interview would be make or break for her in terms of salvaging her reputation. It would also give her the chance to spell out the fact she knew nothing about what Epstein and his associates were doing.” The source added, “Andrew has had his chances to tell his story. Now it’s Fergie’s time.”
