Prince Harry sat down for an exclusive interview with BBC just hours after he lost his fight for state-funded security. During the candid conversation, the Duke of Sussex opened up about the emotional toll of the loss and admitted he wishes to ‘reconcile’ with his family. Despite his heartfelt words, body language expert Inbaal Honigman claimed Harry showed clear signs he wasn’t all that bothered about making amends with King Charles and Prince William.
Harry sat down with broadcaster Nada Tawfik and laid bare his thoughts on his potential UK return. Analyzing footage of the same, Honigman told the Daily Star, “When Harry speaks about reconciliation, there's a surprising amount of shoulder shrugging. The shoulder shrug is linked with indifference.” She added, “The Prince's detailed answer about reconciliation and how much he wants it is frequently punctuated by shoulder shrugs, and they reveal that really, he can take it or leave it.”
Honigman further opined that the Prince was trying his best to ‘hold back tears’ during the interview. She argued that when Harry brought up his love for his home country, his eyes moistened, and he swallowed hard. She noted, “This gulp shows that he's upset, and he glances upwards for a moment, as he's recalling memories at that time.” Honigman also couldn't help but notice a sense of submission in the Duke. The expert explained, “When Harry says that he can't see a world in which he'll be bringing his wife and children back to the UK, he tilts his head twice…The head tilt indicates submission, it suggests that he doesn't feel that any of this is his choice, but that he has to submit to the decisions handed to him by others.”
During the interview Harry admitted to having many differences and disagreements over the years, with his family back in the UK. He shared, “This current situation that has been ongoing for five years with regard to human life and safety is the sticking point. It is the only thing that's left.” Hanigman revealed that his body language suggests that there may be more to the story than the Duke was willing to tell. She stressed, “The Prince speaks of safety as the sticking point, but when he says that it is 'the only thing that's left,' he's actually shaking his head, saying 'no'...His head shake reveals that there is more to the story than just the safety issue.”
Harry also didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on Charles's involvement in his court battle. When asked if he wanted his father to take steps to guarantee his security, Harry said, “I've asked him to step out of the way and let the experts do their job.” He alluded that the withdrawal of security was an attempt to prevent him and Meghan Markle from leaving the royal fold. The Duke also openly admitted on air that Charles no longer speaks to him over the security dispute—and that his family may never forgive him.
