Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal exit and their subsequent bombshell interviews had strained their relationship with the royal family. Despite the ongoing tensions, Prince Harry has been keen on reconciling with his estranged family. Royal expert Hugo Vickers believes Princess Eugenie could be the ideal person to help bridge the divide and help the Sussexes mend the rift.
As per reports, Harry and Markle visited Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank in Portugal in 2023. Commenting on the visit, Vickers on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, said, “I think because there was some talk of him going to have a house in Portugal. She is the one who is still able to be in touch with them, and she, I suspect, could be the one who could link the children together.” The outlet reports that despite the Sussexes buying property in Portugal near Eugenie's residence, their relationship reportedly deteriorated. Allegedly, Harry and Markle were at a crossroads with Eugenie over her being photographed in April with Sussex critic, Piers Morgan.
Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson spoke of the controversial photo and opined, “They went for a pub lunch and there was a bit of upset in Montecito because obviously Piers Morgan and Meghan have bashed heads in the past and Harry have bashed heads in the past and that they took a dim view of Eugenie going out for a pub.” In response, Vickers chimed, “Well, I hope that relationship does survive because I think that's a really important link.”
Meanwhile, during an episode of Piers' talk show, Uncensored, Morgan himself confirmed the rumors that Harry did not appreciate his cousin hanging out with him. As reported by The Mirror, he shared, “I was seen hugging them goodbye, and Harry saw this and went completely ballistic. And I can confirm...that this is entirely true.” The alleged row between the cousins was previously reported by a source who told The Sun, “A dim view was taken of this, as Piers has clashed with Meghan and Harry in the past. Eugenie has been supportive of Harry and Meghan for years and was right there at the beginning of their relationship, but it has now soured.”
However, another insider debunked the feud and told People magazine, “The Duke remains close to Princess Eugenie. They always have and always will be.” In his memoir, Spare, the Prince had also shared how Eugenie got along with his wife Markle 'as if they were sisters.' The Princess was also the only royal member included in their Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan. The docuseries featured photos of the Sussexes partying with Eugenie and Brooksbank on Halloween in 2016 and the Princess playing with Prince Archie by the beach in LA.
