Horses and dogs have been a favorite in the royal family for centuries, and Queen Camilla has joined the tribe by adopting another pooch! The Queen Consort took to Instagram to share a photo with her newly adopted furry companion, Moley. Her four-legged friend was rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, a nonprofit animal welfare organization. Lucky Moley has plenty of company, thanks to Camilla’s growing pack of other rescue dogs.

The Royal Family’s Instagram account announced the adoption. The caption read, “Meet mischievous Moley, The Queen’s new much-loved canine companion who was recently adopted from @Battersea where Her Majesty is Patron.” Camilla had also confirmed in February that she “just got a new” rescue dog, who was eight weeks old at the time, in a video shared by Daily Mail’s Rebecca English. In the clip, Camilla shared how Moley got his adorable name. She quipped, “Looks just like a mole.”

Moley’s adoption comes 3 months after Camilla confirmed the death of her dog, Beth, whom she had also rescued from Battersea. As reported by USA Today, on Instagram, she shared photos of Beth with herself and King Charles through the years, saying the dog “brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.” In the post, Battersea also thanked Camilla for “giving Beth the most wonderful life and for always supporting rescue.” The rescued Jack Russell Terrier passed away from an untreatable tumor.

Camilla is an ardent animal lover and has advocated for the welfare and ethical treatment of animals. In 2012, she adopted a Jack Russell Terrier named Bluebell, a year after adopting Beth. It is reported that Bluebell was found abandoned in a park in London with a painful skin allergy. In 2023, the Queen Consort proudly honored her dogs, Beth and Bluebell, by wearing a coronation dress that had two Jack Russell terriers embroidered on it. Meanwhile, Charles has a Lagotto Romagnolo named Snuff. On Monday, Camilla was scheduled to visit a garden in London that is “designed with dogs in mind.” The garden will feature the names of Bluebell, Moley, and Beth, along with Charles’ dog, Snuff, inscribed along a path.

The Queen Consort took over the patronage of the Animal Care Trust in 2016, after the late Queen Elizabeth had passed on the role. According to the BBC, in 2024, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) received a letter from Buckingham Palace, saying that Camilla “will not procure any new fur garments.” The letter further read, “This comes with the Queen's warmest wishes.” Camilla seems to be following in the Queen's footsteps, who was also an ardent animal lover, known for her love for corgis. The late Queen famously owned over 30 Pembroke Welsh Corgis during her lifetime. Following her passing, the London-based nonprofit Kennel Club remembered her as “one of the most dog-loving monarchs in history.”
