Queen Camilla ‘Has a Debt to Settle’ With Prince Harry Before His UK Comeback

Prince Harry's UK comeback will not be without its own showdowns, and interestingly, he even has a debt to settle with his stepmother, Queen Camilla. According to a royal expert, the Duke of Sussex's unstable relationship with her has led to an “outstanding debt,” and it could become an important part of his return to the UK. The Duke and his wife, Meghan Markle, with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to return to Britain by the end of the month.

Harry and Markle are also reported to live in the UK as private citizens in a non-royal home, operating as non-working royals. This transition brings Harry into much closer proximity to his father, King Charles, and stepmother, Camilla. While many might expect a warm reunion, Harry's past comments about Camilla could make matters complicated. Royal author Robert Jobson has claimed that the Duke still has unfinished business with his stepmother following the sharp criticism he directed at her in his 2023 memoir, Spare.

Writing to the Daily Mail, the expert added, “There is a debt outstanding first” between the two since the release of Spare. The expert continued, “He wrote that she had 'sacrificed' him 'on her personal PR altar.' Camilla kept quiet. The debt to his brother has not been paid either.” Jobson also suggested that Harry is unlikely to be the one to make the first move. “But if the monarchy is going to unite, it is essential,” he opined.

For the unversed, Harry, in his memoir, shared how he and Prince William had initially struggled with the idea of their father marrying Camilla. They even disliked her to the extent of pleading with Charles not to marry her, although he later acknowledged that they understood their father wanted to be with the woman he loved. However, the bigger insult came when he called Camilla a “wicked stepmother,” while describing how William had long been suspicious of his father's relationship with her.

Later, things escalated even further when he, during his 2023 interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, said, “She was the villain; she was a third person in the marriage, she needed to rehabilitate her image.” The Prince continued, “The need for her to rehabilitate her image… That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press.”

Camilla, however, chose not to publicly respond to Harry's remarks, but that doesn't mean the comment didn't affect her. Lady Lansdowne, one of Camilla's close friends, previously told The Times, “Of course it bothers her, of course it hurts, but she doesn't let it get to her. Her philosophy is always, 'Don't make a thing of it, and it will settle down—least said, soonest mended.'”
