Princess Eugenie is Facing a 'Personal Crisis' As She Turns 36, Expert Claims
The York family’s past ties to Jeffrey Epstein have complicated matters for Eugenie and Beatrice.
Princess Eugenie is celebrating her 36th birthday today, March 23, 2026, but all celebrations are expected to be private. The past few years were filled with several memorable milestones for her, including her sister’s wedding and the birth of her two kids in 2021 and 2023. Yet, this time, her special day comes at a time when the York family is facing a turbulent situation. Sources indicate that many of these difficulties stem from the controversies tied to her parents’ past connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and the family rifts are clearly visible.
To begin with, Eugenie's father, former Prince Andrew, was stripped of his royal titles last year, signaling a major downfall for the family. More recently, he was taken into custody over allegations of misconduct in public office. Although he was soon released, the case is still under investigation. On the other hand, Eugenie's mother, Sarah Ferguson, has long been away from the spotlight after her email exchanges with Epstein surfaced publicly, as reported by HELLO! Magazine. Additionally, Eugenie and her sister, Princess Beatrice, were also referenced in the Epstein files, but there hasn't been any indication of wrongdoing on their part.
When it comes to making a public appearance alongside her parents, the 36-year-old princess has largely maintained her distance. Reports even claim that her husband, Jack Brooksbank, is unwilling to allow his mother-in-law to stay at their family residence. Speaking of the situation, Matt Wilkinson, a popular royal editor, said, "I've got sympathy for both Beatrice and Eugenie, and I'd like to see them somehow rehabilitated and used properly in the royal family. I think the King wants her, wants them both, to not pay for the sins of their parents, but I'm not sure there is mass public sympathy for them at the moment. They're probably going through a complete and utter personal crisis."
He further noted that while the situation is difficult, the sisters are likely to manage given their support systems, adding, “I don't like bad things to happen to people when they haven't actually done anything wrong themselves, but I think they can cope. I think there are enough support structures around them and enough money. Their husbands are both very supportive and rich, so I think they'll be able to cope.” This appeared to be true, as Eugenie seemed to be handling the entire situation calmly. She was even spotted enjoying a ski getaway in Switzerland, with her husband and their two sons on the eve of Andrew’s arrest. Not just this, the sisters were also seen in a cheerful mood during Christmas 2025.
However, insiders clarify that this should not be seen as Eugenie and Beatrice turning their backs on their father or distancing themselves from the family. In fact, one of their friends stated, "They aren't turning their backs on him. But everything is obviously very strained and hard." Meanwhile, amid all the difficulties, reports have also suggested that Eugenie and Beatrice will probably not be attending the Royal Ascot event this year. This decision comes as part of a broader effort to keep the royal sisters away from any kind of public engagements for the time being. This might be concerning for some, as over the years, they have regularly been a part of the royal carriage procession.
