This 'Is the End of It': Princess Diana Would Be 'Devastated' at the State of William and Harry's Relationship Today
The feud between Princes William and Harry continues to escalate in the wake of the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle "upstaging" the Prince of Wales at the Diana Awards on Thursday, March 14. The 25th annual ceremony saw the future king honor his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales,' memory but also marked the moment HRH "drew a line in the sand" regarding his relationship with his rebel sibling.
"She would have been devastated," the late princess' former butler, Paul Burrell, shared when asked by GBN's Mark Dolan how she would likely react to her sons today. "Are you surprised this is happening? I am not. It is just another awkward moment for William, who doesn’t want to share any platform, anywhere in the world, with his brother."
"He has drawn a line in the sand and decided no more; that is the end of it," he added. "But even, an award, cannot bring these two boys back together. And if that can’t, their mother's legacy can't, then nothing can."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex both released videos before and during Prince William's in-person tribute to his iconic mother at the awards gala named after her. Shortly before the 25th annual prizes were handed out, Meghan launched a lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard on Instagram.
This was followed by the Duke of Sussex, with Meghan, dropping a video announcing the winner of their $100,000 NAACP — Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award, which timed with the Prince of Wales's speech.
The man who was once named "Diana's rock," due to his personal and professional relationship with her, also feels that the current "KP Photoshopgate" scandal is a "nothing to see here" moment.
"It's not a crisis for the royal family, really, because Kate and William know the truth. When they released that picture — the Mother’s Day photo — they did it for the best of reasons, and wasn’t it a wonderful picture?" Burrell pointed out. "We took it at face value. I knew the place where they took the picture; I would recognize that place anywhere. They wanted to send a clear message out to the people to say, 'Look, we're fine; we’re happy.'"
Burrell concluded: "What they didn’t think was that photoshopping it to a certain extent would fuel conspiracy theories. The truth is much simpler: Kate is recovering from a serious operation. She needs time, and she is with her family. She is a wife and a mother, and she has a right to privacy. Let’s give her some space and time to get better."
The Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex are reported to have not spoken to one another since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022.
