Prince William to Skip World Cup in the US for a Quiet Summer with Family — Unless There’s One Twist
William is prioritizing a low-key summer at home, trading the global stage of FIFA for some much-needed quality time in full-on dad mode.
Prince William, an avid soccer fan, might skip the 2026 World Cup altogether this summer. Instead of jetting off to the tournament, the Prince of Wales is prioritizing a low-key summer at home, trading the global stage for some much-needed quality time in full-on dad mode. While initial reports indicated that he and Prince George might fly across the pond for some FIFA fun, plans have seemingly shifted. However, one major twist could change that.
Once the break starts, instead of traveling to the US, Mexico, or Canada to catch some football action and support the England team—something he has done for years as the president of the Football Association (FA)—William is choosing to stay home with his family. Charlotte Griffiths of the Daily Mail said, “William wants to hunker down with the kids… [as] it’s a really important summer for the Wales family.”
This will be Prince George’s last summer at home before he leaves for Eton this fall. Even Princess Charlotte will start looking at options for her next year once the schools reopen. So before the major changes, the Wales family is choosing to keep things on the down low and enjoy this time together at home. They have plans to enjoy the summer at their country home in Norfolk before they join the rest of the royal family for their annual trip to the Balmoral Estate in Scotland.
There is one thing, though, that might change things—and that depends entirely on Team England. Later today, in the Group of 32, England will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the World Cup for a chance to proceed to the next stage. So, while as of now, the Waleses have no plans for a transatlantic trip, that could be amended if England manages to snag a spot in the finals. Fans remember just how excited the Prince was during the Europa League Final earlier this year.
Speaking to Page Six, HELLO!’s Emily Nash noted, “I think if England would get to the final, then I’d be very surprised if William didn’t attend.” That reality is still far down the road, though, meaning William and the kids will just have to cheer on their favorite team from their TV at home for the time being, just like everyone else. With the FIFA World Cup final scheduled for July 19 at the New York, New Jersey Stadium, the Prince and Princess of Wales have a couple of weeks before they need to make any decision regarding their attendance.
