Prince William Has Already Met the Person Who Could Crown Him King One Day
The coronation of a British monarch is usually conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
We have often heard several royal experts, fans, and observers talk about the eventual coronation ceremony of Prince William and what it might look like. For instance, there have long been discussions online about how he and Kate Middleton may bring a more modern feel to the ceremony while still honoring the traditions. The conversation has once again gained momentum as Dame Sarah Mullally, the first woman to become the Archbishop of Canterbury, is now being tipped as someone who could officiate at William’s future coronation.
The coronation of a British monarch is usually conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who is the highest-ranking official in the Church of England, of which the King serves as Supreme Governor. During King Charles' coronation ceremony, which took place in May 2023 after the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, he was crowned by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby. Similarly, Queen Elizabeth's coronation was held in Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, and was officiated by Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, then Archbishop of Canterbury. Considering this long-standing tradition, it is very likely that William will be crowned by Sarah when his coronation takes place.
Meanwhile, during Sarah’s installation ceremony, the cathedral erupted with applause as officials greeted William, who was smartly dressed in a dark suit with a blue-and-white checkered tie, and Kate, who looked elegant in a grey and black outfit with a matching hat and jewelry, as reported by the BBC. It is also worth noting that William and Kate previously met Sarah during a private meeting at Lambeth Palace last month.
After their meeting, a source close to the Archbishop said, “We would love the (future) supreme governor to be at church every Sunday, but one has to be practical around the fact that they are a couple with young children.” As reported by The Mirror, the meeting was seen as a sign of how much the Prince and Princess of Wales valued their faith. Several experts even claimed that the visit highlighted their intention to establish a close and cooperative relationship with the Church’s senior leader.
