Prince Harry Seemingly Takes a Dig at King Charles Hours After Happy Family Reunion
Despite Harry's joke raising eyebrows, recent reports suggest there may be a more hopeful chapter unfolding behind palace doors.
Prince Harry seemingly makes what some royal watchers believe is an indirect dig at his father, King Charles, just hours after the pair reunited at Highgrove. Harry arrived in the UK to attend several charity events and, most importantly, the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. While Meghan Markle was supposed to join him for the events, she reportedly pulled out following security concerns. However, she later joined Harry with her kids in the U.K. for a hearty reunion with their grandfather.
While one would expect that after the reunion, things would be smooth sailing, Harry, just hours after his reconciliation with the King, made a sly remark about his 'sausage fingers.' While the remark was not aimed at the monarch, the timing has raised eyebrows, especially given the King's long-publicized nickname for his swollen fingers, which have been the subject of public fascination. During an appearance on The Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast, the Duke displayed his trademark humor as he chatted with former England rugby star Joe Marler.
During their conversation, Harry poked fun at Marler's unusually large hands, which drew comparisons to the King's famous 'sausage fingers.' As Harry discussed his hair and routine, the lighthearted exchange led to him teasing Marler about his hands. The Duke said: "They look like individual Cumberland sausages."
Explaining the reason behind Charles' swollen fingers, medical experts say the appearance may be consistent with edema, a buildup of fluid in the body's tissues, or dactylitis, a condition involving swelling of the fingers that can be associated with inflammation. Such swelling can have a range of possible causes, including fluid retention, arthritis, or certain autoimmune conditions, though Buckingham Palace has not publicly confirmed any specific diagnosis.
The King has consistently approached the subject with good humor. In a letter written shortly after the birth of Prince William in 1982, he jokingly described his "sausage fingers." More recently, he was seen making a lighthearted remark about the same while rehearsing for his Coronation alongside William in the BBC documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year.
Despite the timing of Harry's remark, recent reports suggest there may be a more hopeful chapter unfolding behind Palace doors. Harry's latest UK visit reportedly included a warm reunion with Charles, and the monarch reportedly remains eager to strengthen his bond with his grandkids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
