Prince Harry's recent BBC interview laid bare his emotions over losing the battle for security, and amidst his ongoing rift with the royal family. The Duke of Sussex sat down with broadcaster Nada Tawfik and admitted he wants to ‘reconcile’ with his family. Clinical psychologist Dr. Raj Persaud analyzed the explosive interview and claimed the Prince ‘needs help.’ Persaud noted worrying signs that suggest Harry may be ‘in difficulty.’
The doctor believes Harry’s public airing of his grievances could be an emotional ploy to encourage his father to contact him. He told the Daily Express, “He appears to be in difficulty and, I would suggest respectfully, needs help to move on and really start a process of rapprochement with his family.” The psychologist added, “With other avenues of communication apparently cut off…this was quite possibly a bid to garner attention on the public stage in a manner they simply cannot ignore.”
In his BBC interview, Harry revealed that his father, King Charles, refuses to speak to him and that they remain distant. He said, “Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has, he won't speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.” The Prince further revealed, “There have been so many disagreements between me and some of my family. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things, but...there's no point in continuing to fight anymore.” It is widely reported that Charles has deliberately ignored Harry’s calls because he didn't wish to intervene or make a comment regarding his son’s legal case, given Harry was suing his ministers in court.
Dr Persaud also suspected the Prince of subtly hinting to his family that he is willing to create a huge scene in an attempt to undermine them. He explained, “The Duke appeared visibly shocked after losing his legal appeal against a government decision that downgraded his security after he stopped being a working royal and moved to the US with the Duchess of Sussex. His emotions were on display.” The psychologist opined that Harry had “appeared to have been caught off balance by the result” and was “in denial that his protestation of ‘inferior treatment’ had not convinced the senior judge.” The health professional concluded that Harry remains 'unable to move on.'
In the interview, Harry admitted that he was ‘devastated’ over his recent loss in court. He said, “I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.” He also expressed frustration on the royal family’s alleged involvement and added, “Not only did they decide to remove my security in the U.K., but they also signaled to every single government around the world not to protect us.” Despite the Duke’s public plea for reconciliation, sources close to the Firm indicate that it is highly unlikely to happen given his many damaging comments.
