Prince Harry May Have One Regret Driving His UK Return — And It Involves Family
The Duke's close friend explained that the homecoming may have to do with his family and the regret of staying away.
Prince Harry may have remained estranged from his family for almost six years, but he might also have been homesick. For the past year, the Duke of Sussex has hinted at a full reconciliation through his touching interviews and discussions with friends. Last month, he had a reunion with his father, King Charles, and, surprisingly, the Sussexes announced this week that they would return to the UK. What made the Duke take this major step? Was it their financial struggles, their desire to provide their children with a better education, or a deeper emotional connection? One of Harry's close friends has made a revelation in an exclusive with GBN News that might just disclose the Duke's inner turmoil all along.
"I am in no doubt that the primary motivator of this move is the King's health," Prince Harry's friend Archie Manners revealed to the news channel. It has been reported that King Charles learned of the news just days before it broke, and it has also pleased the monarch, as he would be seeing more of his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Charles was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, prompting Harry to make an instant trip to London. However, since animosity prevailed due to the 'Megxit' fracture, the father and son marked a meeting that lasted less than 45 minutes before the monarch departed for Sandringham. Manners continued to explain that the Duke's homecoming may in part have resulted from the 'human reaction' of spending less time with his beloved father since stepping down from royal duties in 2020.
There is "probably some regret on both sides of that", he added, and pointed to the "realisation that one day he'll get a call saying daddy is no longer with us and he doesn't want to have had bad blood beforehand". The Telegraph reported that Harry has promised to earn his father's trust by keeping family matters private henceforth. Additionally, the Sussexes have agreed to keep their children out of the public eye, with no media circus surrounding their new UK school or their birthdays.
Similarly, British media have been urged not to disclose the location of their new home or the children's school. It is understood that the Sussexes will be residing in a non-royal home on the outskirts of London.
The family's expected return could also prompt a review of their taxpayer-funded security. The Duke has sought guaranteed police protection, but his repeated requests have been denied by the courts and the Home Office. This change in the couple's "unique circumstances" may lead to a reassessment of the current travel arrangement, which requires 30 days'notice for each visit to the UK, with each visit evaluated individually.
Meanwhile, Manners concluded that "the beginnings of a reconciliation of the Royal Family - and frankly, on a human level, a grandfather and a grandson," referring to King Charles and Prince Archie. Manners also added that it would be lovely to see Prince Harry and Prince William on the same page too.
