Prince Harry’s UK Return Was Months in the Making—And the Clues Were All There
A year after Prince Harry hinted at wanting a family reconciliation, the Sussexes are set to return to the UK.
Prince Harry famously voiced his desire for family reconciliation during an exclusive BBC interview last year, stating, "I would love a reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious." Then in July this year, the Duke had an emotional reunion with his father, King Charles, at Highgrove, where the monarch met Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for the first time in four years.
The Sussexes have now surprised the media with their sudden announcement of making a possible permanent return to the UK later this month. With reports confirming they have secured a residence on the outskirts of London and enrolled the children in a prominent school, it now appears the Duke had been dropping subtle hints about this major move for over a year.
Prince Harry had discussed the desire to return to British soil with singer Joss Stone at the WellChild Awards in September 2025, who had recently moved back from Nashville earlier that year. "He asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home," the Grammy winner previously revealed to HELLO!
"Maybe Harry will move back too," Stone had asserted back then. "That would be nice." She also highlighted, "He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children." The famed singer added, "It was nice to share that with him because it’s exactly why we felt drawn to come back—for the kids to grow up surrounded by family, friends, and a strong sense of belonging and, most importantly, in a safe environment."
According to Page Six, sources have claimed that Grandpa Charles is excited about the Sussexes moving closer to him despite learning about their bombshell decision merely four days ago. "I know that Charles is the reason they are moving back," a royal source noted. The Duke had previously expressed reluctance to return to the UK with his family due to security concerns, stating that his children may never experience his homeland. In a 2025 interview with the BBC, he emphasized that he couldn't think of a reason to get his wife and children back to his home country any time soon. However, during the interview, he also confessed deep affection for his country, lamenting the absence of his homeland and the inability to share it with his children, specifically some parts of the UK.
The Sussexes have not publicly specified which school Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will attend, but their choices might differ from those of the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Wales children—Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—attend Lambrook School in Berkshire, while Prince George is set to enter Eton College near Windsor in September.
