Prince Harry Is Returning to the UK — but William Has Already Made His Position Clear
Royal experts reveal Prince William has put his hands up when it comes to reconciling with his younger brother.
Once united by an unbreakable bond, Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship has evolved into a strained estrangement. Their roles as 'heir' and 'spare' within the monarchy led to divergent life paths, particularly after Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle and his departure from royal duties. This shift, compounded by disclosures in Harry's memoir, Spare, has highlighted the emotional toll of navigating family loyalty and personal identity in the public eye. The brothers have been waging a cold war, and royal enthusiasts and fans have been eagerly waiting to see whether they will break the ice now that the Duke of Sussex has announced his return this July.
"My understanding is there’s no plan for him to meet with his brother,” royal expert Emily Nash told Us Weekly while discussing the expected awkward scenario. “There’s no communication there at present time, and it’s very sad for all involved, but they’re both very busy, getting on with their lives, and I think Harry does have a bit more of a relationship with his father, so perhaps he will focus his efforts there for now.” There have been significant challenges in the relationship dynamic, Nash further acknowledged, indicating that while some issues may fade over time, the relationship will likely remain strained. Prince William's stance on keeping his distance from his younger brother has another reason. According to Express UK, Dan Wakeford, founder of Celebrity Intelligence, stated on The Royals Uncensored podcast that the future King disapproved of how his brother portrayed the Princess of Wales in his memoir, noting that Harry often depicted her in a less-than-favorable manner.
"It was talking about Kate and portraying her as cold in Spare is something that William could not get over. It made him realize ‘I am done’. He could deal with the criticisms of himself, but criticizing Kate is really the straw that broke the camel's back here," Wakeford highlighted. Whereas with King Charles, it is a different equation; he is eager to spend time with his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, whom he hasn't seen in person since 2022. As far as a meeting between Charles and Harry is concerned, Nash further emphasized the necessity for their diaries to align perfectly, with full willingness from both parties involved.
The pair had a brief reunion in September 2025, their first meeting in two years, which insiders described as “super positive and very relaxed.” They discussed personal matters, including the children and Charles's health, with emotions running high, expressed through hugs and tears, Nash highlighted. The trip marks the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, where Harry is anticipated to engage in activities related to the tournament he established. In the end, Prince Harry is hoping that his children will pave the way for them to be sentimentally accepted back into the royal fold.
