Prince Harry Asked About Andrew in a Rare TV Interview — and His Reaction Said It All
During an interview in Jordan about the ongoing Gaza war, Andrew's name came up, which elicited a telling reaction from Prince Harry.
Despite not being a working royal, Prince Harry has recently faced questions about his uncle's past controversial actions. The Duke, who is known for speaking his mind, however, chose to tread carefully. During his recent trip to Jordan, he gave a rare interview, hoping to keep the focus solely on the country's humanitarian efforts and the ongoing situation in Gaza. He ignored mention of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's scandals, segueing the conversation toward more pressing issues, and making it clear that he would not address anything related to the Epstein saga.
In an interview with Channel 4 News on February 27, the Duke of Sussex praised Jordan's efforts and 'moral leadership' for the world right now. During the sit-down, the interviewer asked, "I understand you don't wish to talk about your family, your uncle, things back in London, you're here because you don't want to distract from the work you're doing on the WHO and on Gaza. Firstly, why are you here in Jordan? Why is it so important to you?" Harry, being tactful, replied, "I think, having spoken to Dr. Tedros for many months now — well, years — but specifically months in the lead-up to this trip, it was really important for us to highlight the incredible work that Jordan does for this region."
The Duke of Sussex has firsthand witnessed the country's efforts, especially during his visit to the Specialty Hospital in Amman, where he and Meghan Markle spent time with evacuees from Gaza. Harry then spoke about how the world sometimes forgets to acknowledge the sheer depth of violence in Gaza when it 'drops out' of the news cycle. He continued, "It was a really important time for us to collaborate and come here and shine a light and focus on the very real humanitarian catastrophe that has happened and continues," lauding Jordan's incredible work for the Palestinians.
While Harry may refuse to publicly comment on his uncle's scandals, he and Markle are allegedly feeling 'validated' after the former Prince's arrest. Royal columnist Rob Shuter on his Substack quoted an insider who said, "They're [Harry and Markle] gloating. They do feel validated. For years, they were painted as the problem." Similarly, another echoed, "Harry always said there were serious issues behind Palace walls. The public is only now seeing how messy it really was." They argued that Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest reaffirmed the Sussexes' private belief that the institution was long riddled with cracks.
Similarly, an insider also told The Mirror of Harry's alleged stance on Mountbatten-Windsor, "Harry made his views about Andrew abundantly clear in his book three years ago, at a time when other parts of the institution remained silent. For that candor, he was vilified and ostracized by the institution, sections of the press, and significant parts of British society for 'airing the family's dirty laundry' and challenging the status quo."
The only time the Duke had addressed his uncle was in his memoir, Spare, where he wrote about his fears that he and Markle would lose protection, noting the contrast with Mountbatten-Windsor's situation at the time. He penned, "Not in the wake of my Uncle Andrew. He was embroiled in a shameful scandal, accused of the s----- assault of a young woman, and no one had so much as suggested that he lose his security. Whatever grievances people had against us, s-- crimes weren't on the list."
