Meghan Markle’s Father Breaks Silence After Leg Amputation — Shares Emotional Health Update
With the holiday season, Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, shared a brief but telling update from his hospital bed. Currently, recovering in the Philippines after undergoing a major operation to remove a blood clot, Thomas's message points to how things have changed since he moved to a rehabilitation center.
Thomas, who had to undergo a leg amputation at the age of 81, issued a three-word statement reflecting on his recovery. He shared that he had “much to celebrate” this Christmas. The short and hopeful update comes as he starts his rehabilitation process, which is assumed to be long and challenging.
As per reports, Thomas’s leg was amputated right below the knee as the aforementioned blood clot cut off the circulation in his foot. While he awaits a prosthetic leg, he is learning to walk again. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he revealed, “I'm doing physiotherapy every day and have managed to sit on the side of the bed and even stood on my one remaining leg with the help of a nurse and a walking frame. That was a wonderful Christmas present.” Filled with gratitude, he added, “There is a long way to go, but I am so grateful to the wonderful doctors and nurses who are taking such good care of me.”
Thomas has moved into a rehabilitation unit within the hospital in Cebu. He is expected to remain there for three months. Earlier this year, he left his life in Rosarito, Mexico, and relocated to the city with Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr. The latter also provided fresh insight into his father’s progressing health as he spent Christmas at his bedside. He told the publication that his father was doing "remarkably well" and is in "good spirits" and he looks “to walk again with the aid of a prosthetic leg.”
Amid these developments, Meghan’s spokesperson confirmed that she had reached out to her estranged father via a hand-delivered letter after his surgery. Sources, meanwhile, have shared that she wanted the letter to remain private and was deliberate about not calling her father, fearing the conversation could be overheard in a public hospital setting.
Thomas has long expressed his willingness to make amends with his daughter. However, things have continued to remain icy between the father and daughter. Despite his fragile health, Express reported that she deleted her father’s number and has no intention of flying over to meet him. In light of the same, both Thomas Jr and Meghan's half-sister, Samantha Markle, have slammed the Duchess.
