Trigger Warning: This article contains themes of child sexual abuse that some readers may find distressing.

Freshly released Epstein files have once again brought long-familiar names back into uneasy focus, with attention this time drawn as much to the language used as to the association itself. Among the latest disclosures is an email from Sarah Ferguson containing an ungallant reference to her then-teenage daughter — a detail that has unsettled even the seasoned. The email, uncovered in the newest tranche of documents released by the US Department of Justice, shows the former Duchess of York exchanging messages with Jeffrey Epstein in 2010, well after he had already been convicted of a sex crime involving a minor.

It is one of several communications now resurfacing as authorities continue to make public millions of files linked to the disgraced financier. And as per an email accessed by PEOPLE, Epstein wrote to Ferguson in March 2010 asking whether she would be travelling to New York. And Ferguson’s reply was a crude, “Not sure yet. Just waiting for Eugenie to come back from a shagging weekend!!” The remark was about her younger daughter, who was 19 at the time and just two days shy of her 20th birthday. She was reportedly spending time with her then-boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, to mark the birthday.

At the time the email was written, Epstein had already pleaded guilty to charges of solicitation of prostitution involving a minor under the age of 18. He served time in a minimum-security prison before being released in 2009 and placed under house arrest, which concluded later in 2010.

The message is not the only correspondence between Ferguson and Epstein. In another email from January 2010, she wrote to him: “You are a legend. I really don't have the words to describe my love, gratitude for your generosity and kindness. Xx I am at your service. Just marry me.” The latest DOJ release also included emails and photographs involving Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, including images showing him kneeling over an unidentified woman. A previous batch of files released in December featured a photo of Mountbatten Windsor seated alongside Epstein’s longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell at Sandringham House, one of Queen Elizabeth’s most cherished residences.

More recently, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer suggested that the disgraced ex-Prince should cooperate with US authorities. “In terms of testifying, I have always said anybody who has got information should be prepared to share that information,” Starmer said. “You can't be victim-centred if you're not prepared to do that. Epstein's victims have to be the priority.”

This is not the first instance where Ferguson has written such a risqué email to the infamous financier. In another 2011 email, she was seen making upto the financier, after stating in an interview that her involvement with Epstein had been a "gigantic error of judgment." Subsequently, she emailed Epstein to say she had not used the word 'paedophilia' in reference to him. "As you know, I did not, absolutely not, say the 'P word' about you, but understand it was reported that I did," she wrote. "I know you feel hellaciously let down by me. You have always been a steadfast, generous, and supreme friend to me and my family."
