New Documentary Reveals Why Kate Middleton Won’t Play 'Peacemaker' Between William and Harry
A new documentary reveals Kate Middleton, who once shared a close bond with Prince Harry, might not broker peace between him and Prince William.
The possibility of Prince William and Prince Harry healing their rift received a new lease of life after the latter returned to the UK last month. However, there has been no visible progress in repairing the brothers' bond, and they are not believed to have reunited. And if a royal expert is to be believed, Kate Middleton might not step in to broker peace between them this time either.
ABC News Studios recently released a new documentary titled ‘Harry & Meghan: The Return of the Prince,’ exploring the Sussexes' movements and the ongoing royal dynamics. The documentary features several royal experts and reporters, including journalist Omid Scobie, who claimed that the Princess of Wales has “very little to do” in the brothers’ relationship. Consequently, he suggests she is unlikely to swoop in to play the role of peacemaker.
He said via the Daily Mail, “There’s always this talk of Kate potentially being the peacekeeper, the one that could bring the two brothers together.” However, he added, “If I’ve learned anything over the years from covering them, it’s that Kate has very little to do with that relationship between the brothers.”
Before William and Harry’s bitter fallout, the Duke of Sussex shared a remarkably close bond with Middleton. In his 2023 memoir, Spare, the Duke affectionately referred to her as the "sister" he never had and always wanted. “I loved my new sister-in-law, I felt she was more sister than in-law, the sister I’d never had and always wanted, and I was pleased that she’d forever be standing by Willy’s side,” he wrote. Following her 2011 royal wedding, Middleton joined the brothers to form a seemingly unbreakable trio, frequently teaming up for public engagements. Today, however, the Princess and Harry are a far cry from the warm bond they once shared.
The Princess of Wales also reportedly had a frosty relationship with Markle during the latter’s time in the monarchy, with observers often pointing to potential cultural friction between the two women. Despite past tensions, however, when asked in 2021 whether she had FaceTimed her newborn niece, Princess Lilibet, Middleton had the sweetest reply. She candidly confirmed she hadn't yet reached out to the baby royal but warmly added, “I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her, because we haven’t yet… met her yet, so hopefully that will be soon.”
In July, the Sussexes reconciled with King Charles in a private meeting at Highgrove. While the Waleses kept their distance from the family reunion, fans are still hoping for a similar happy ending for the two estranged brothers.
