Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, has decided to share his side of the story. The 82-year-old has denied the accusations of child abuse levied against him last week, but made a series of other bombshell admissions as the scrutiny grows. His comments come as questions are being raised about how the allegations were handled by the Metropolitan Police and why Meghan reportedly chose to keep her children away from their grandfather.

Thomas, who has been estranged from Meghan since 2018, spoke to The Mail on Sunday in an extensive interview. He admitted that he had travelled to the Philippines at least twice when he was single and had “slept with prostitutes.” However, he strongly denied having s*x with underage girls. “I have never had s*x with anyone under the age of 18,” he said. The retired television lighting director added, “I like Asian women, but that is not a crime."
Thomas is being investigated by authorities in the Philippines following allegations that child s*xual abuse images were found on electronic devices associated with him. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., reportedly found the pictures while looking through boxes containing his father's belongings at their former home in the Philippines. Thomas Jr. said he was horrified by what he found and reported his father to the police.

Defending himself, Thomas Sr. told the outlet, "I have not had my computer or phones for nearly two years; if there is anything bad on there, it was put there by someone else.” He has also denied being the man shown in a photograph reportedly depicting a bearded man having s*x with a young Asian girl. Thomas said he would cooperate with investigators and welcomed a forensic examination of his devices. The FBI has also said it is aware of the allegations and would investigate any related potential violations of US law.

Talking to the People, Meghan said that she was “deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.” She explained that concerns about her father had surfaced years earlier. The Duchess added that a letter containing allegations against Thomas was sent to the Metropolitan Police in 2018 and later shared with her. “That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated. I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason: to protect them.”
