Meghan Markle Reveals Her Secret to Impressing Guests — but It’ll Cost You $256
An avid hostess, Meghan Markle recently divulged a few of her hosting tips, but they might be as feasible for the fans.
Meghan Markle fancies herself a hostess and has always shared great hosting tips, be it through her Netflix show or her lifestyle brand, As Ever. However, there has always been a certain indelible asterisk after every tip, indicating the financial implications of its execution. One of the most recent examples of this is her brand’s latest Instagram post.
On Tuesday, As Ever revealed “Meghan’s Hosting Notes” with a two-picture carousel on their page. The caption read, “Light candles before guests arrive so the room already feels warm when everyone walks through the door. Place them at different heights and keep the scent subtle so it blends naturally into the room. Set the mood at home.” The post encouraged fans to buy the brand’s Signature candles and its recently launched matchbox, both available on its website. While the tips are innocuous and doable, the complication arises when product price points are taken into account.
As Ever has released four Signature Candles, each individually priced at $64. The brand has also launched a special bundle featuring all four Signature Candles and the new matchbox, priced at an eye-watering $256. The brand also offers a bundle featuring two Signature candles and the matchbox, priced at $128. However, despite the different offerings and price ranges, all three will likely burn a hole through pockets, making the products not so affordable for average consumers.
Many social media users believe that Markle is out of touch, and the premium price points of her products unfortunately reinforce that label. Candles and matchboxes are readily available and accessible products that can be bought at much lower prices. And in times when lighters are also heavily used, selling premium matchboxes seems a bit unusual.
However, ever since launching matchsticks, Markle has found innovative ways to incorporate them into different bundles. Apart from the obvious pairing with the candles, she has included the sleek, blue matchbox in two different hampers named ‘The Morning Ritual’ and ‘The Evening Ritual’. The former features lemon ginger tea, honey, and Signature Candle 519, named after her wedding anniversary with Prince Harry, along with the matchbox. While the winding down version includes peppermint tea, honey, and Signature Candle 084, titled after soon-to-be birthday girl Princess Lilibet’s birthdate, along with the matchsticks, of course.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop is possibly Markle’s closest competitor in the lifestyle space, and the two brands have always been subjects of comparisons. And in the spirit of the trend, Goop candles are priced between $40 and $80. Their candle set, which features three candles, is priced at $55. And interestingly enough, it was a quirkily named candle that helped Goop go viral several years back.
