Meghan Gets Called ‘Your Highness’ on Arrival in Australia — and It May Have Settled the Title Debate
Harry and Meghan are currently embarking on a four-day quasi-royal tour, seemingly captivating the Australian public with their presence.
Over half a decade ago, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped back from their royal duties and relocated to the U.S. to cultivate a life beyond the palace chaos. Nevertheless, they never ceased contributing to society through their philanthropic endeavors. Now, more than six years since their departure, the duo is still celebrated worldwide and even addressed as 'Your Highness.' The address is an all the more notable distinction, given that they have long severed formal ties with the monarchy. Attending their first engagement in Australia, Markle and Harry walked in hand-in-hand, dressed formally in a matching shade of blue. While they looked regal, it was their humility towards the children at the Royal Children's Hospital that truly won hearts. In a now-viral video, we can see fans going gaga over the Duke and the Duchess's arrival at the hospital. One such fan from the crowd even shouted "Your Highness," addressed to Markle, which spoke volumes about her public persona even without the royals' backing her.
Sharing the video on X, the page owner captioned it as, "Somebody yelled out 'Your Highness.' Only Princess Diana and Harry & Meghan could generate this kind of buzz." While Markle and Harry's social commitments have been quite controversial back in the UK, the Aussies seem to love them. Hailing them, a netizen commented, "The derangers are melting down now in love with it. Princess Meghan Sussex & Prince Harry, the real people's King & Queen." While another added, "I'm so happy for them, I knew Australians would be kind."
A third commented, "What an awesome welcome Harry & Meghan are receiving! Echoes of their first royal visit to Australia." While a fourth added, "After so many years of being treated like shite, it always warms my heart when they’re received so warmly on their travels." Several other eagle-eyed netizens also noticed in the video how a little boy giddily greeted Harry, calling out his name in a sing-along manner, much to the Prince's delight.
Detailing the Sussexes' Australian tour, their spokesperson shared, "Across all engagements, the visit will highlight the duke and duchess's continued commitment to supporting mental health, strengthening support for the armed forces community, and championing the power of connection and shared experience to drive positive change." Along with their social engagements, Harry will be speaking at the InterEdge Summit on Thursday, and Markle will host a women-only luxury retreat event.
Soon after visiting the hospital, Markle proceeded to visit McAuley Community Services for Women, a shelter for women survivors of family abuse. There, she not only had conversations with the survivors but also served them food while exchanging pleasantries. Harry will next be attending a Movember event at Whitten Oval alongside the Western Bulldogs players and will then fly to Canberra for the Australian War Memorial meet. He will also be attending a Last Post ceremony before the couple concludes their tour in Sydney.
